Booked with Hotwire (didn't know the hotel before payment). Satisfied with the service at desk. They booked us in the Waterfront section in a "suite".
The room was comfortable.
The hotel is well placed in Lake Placid downtown.

The only negative thing is that we had to go to the swimming pool with the car (traveling with a baby in the cold-winter). And there was no place there to change clothes ; the restroom in the indoor pool section were not clean (+ odor).
The pool + jacuzzi were alright. Pool was a little cold but eh, it's winter!
There was no room cleaning as we stayed for 2 nights. I was pretty surprised by this (we have to ask?!) but didn't mind (we got enough towels and it was still clean).

The waterfront room was great. We could see the Mirror Lake (dog sled, skating, etc.).

Parking was easy and available.

Would recommend but I don't know about 4-stars... This could be a 3,5 in my book!

In mid-Jan, several friends and I stayed here for a destination wedding. The location could not be more perfect, and the layout is very convenient for lugging belongings and skis in and out of the rooms. The only downside is the strange sliding doors into the bathrooms.
The doors latch loosely and are glass on the top third, frosted glass on the middle third, and wood on the lower third. The see-thoroughness of the doors did not bother us nearly as much as the fact that, when open, they slide directly in front of the closet door. If one person is in the bathroom with the door slid shut, and someone else opens the closet door, the bathroom door is effectively "locked" in place......with no way to get out of the bathroom. In turn when the bathroom door is open, the closet cannot be accessed.
Everything else about this hotel is wonderful. The beds are comfy, the rooms and lobby immaculately clean, the staff extremely friendly, and the views across Mirror Lake are spectacular. Formerly a Hilton, High Peaks is now family-owned and operated, and they recently did a full renovation. I can only guess they got bad advice on the bathroom door design, as there is plenty of room inside the immense bathrooms for a standard door that opens inward.
Other amenities include free WiFi, indoor and outdoor heated pools, a Jacuzzi big enough to fit 30 people, fitness center, business center, meeting rooms, and on site restaurant with 24-hour room service. Everything in town is walking distance, and the free town shuttle stops right in front of the hotel. Several times a day, the shuttle will take you up to Whiteface Mountain and drop you off right in front of the lifts.....a real bonus to staying here. In the summer, the hotel offers free kayaks and paddleboats on the lake. In the winter, mushing and ice skating are a 2-minute walk away.
This place has it all, and as soon as they get those crazy bathroom doors changed out, we'll be back!

We stayed in the waterfront building. The rooms are right on the lake. There are 3 building all in walking distance to each other. Dancing bears is the restaurant and bar on property. We had a group of 20 so there was an hour and a half wait for dinner. They called us in our room when our table was ready, it was very convenient. The down fall to the water view section is there are no common areas to gather for groups. The other two buildings have common areas. Overall it was a nice stay. Would return to this resort.

We stayed at High Peaks Resort for two nights in February during Opening weekend of the Olympics. We stayed in a Waterfront room in the building right on a Mirror Lake. The room overlooked the lake. You could watch the sled dogs, ice skaters, skirts and snowshoers on the lake. The room was great with a comfy bed and the best pillows. We didn't turn on the fireplace or use the jetted bath tub. Our family members had a Waterfront suite and it was pretty spacious. The pool, restaurant, bars are in the main building across the street but it is a 3 minute walk. The ice castle and Winter Carnival in Saranac Lake was fun. It was great watching the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and enjoying a winter get away weekend. We have stayed other places, not having to drive and try to park or walk up a steep hill was great.

Pretty nice hotel in a good location, right on the main street in Lake Placid. The only issue at least in winter is when there is a lot of snow they do not clean their parking lots properly so there is a shortage of parking.

What a lovely hotel to return to after a day on the slopes or skating on the frozen lake or just walking around town. The main reception area is similar to 4 star resorts with a cozy and inviting fireplace and wonderful bar area and very pleasant reception hosts. At about 2 PM they put out a vat of hot chocolate and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies free for the taking. There is always a blazing fire in the fireplace and large enveloping chairs to relax in.
The location is perfect for exploring all there is to see and do in Lake Placid, just walk out the lower level doors and you are immediately on Main St. There is an hourly free shuttle to Whiteface Mountain leaving at 10 minutes past the hour starting at 8:10 AM.

The rooms are fairly typical hotel rooms, ours had 2 queen beds, and large flat screen TV, 3 dresser drawers and a balcony with 2 chairs and a table overlooking the (outdoor) snowcovered pool area and onto Mirror Lake and all it's activities. The Bathroom is fantastic with the most amazing shower with Rain head and a hand held shower plus a bench all done in local stone and "rainshower" glass doors. Beautiful!! Amenities in the bathroom are plentiful and replaced when needed, including lots and lots of towels. There is access from the room floors to the covered parking lot and parking is free. Wifi is also free in the rooms but when everyone has returned from their days outings the connections are sketchy.

The only negative I have to say is the Housekeeping in the rooms. When we arrived there was a "turtle Fur" on the floor behind the big leather club chair and blue and green jelly beans in various locations on the floor. The weekend staff seemed too busy to do the room and when they arrived at 4:30 PM asked if we REALLY needed our room cleaned....we said NO, it was too late for that but we did need clean towels which they handed to us and left. The weekday housekeeping staff where there bright and early and did a lovely job.

All rooms face the inner courtyard and have a balcony. The Fitness center is acceptable but a little small as is the indoor pool and hot tub. The Restaurant, Dancing Bears has an OK menu and the best meal I had was the Lobster Roll with amost a full lobster in the salad.

One note....there is no indication that room service is available and it wasn't until the last day that I discovered by calling the front desk....yes indeed it is available. The hotel needs to put something in the room besides the restaurants abbreviated menu saying this service is available and what hours it is available. There is no "button" on the phone to go directly to the room service people, you have to use a button called Hotel Services...who knew???

Would I stay here again the next time we're in Lake Placid....YOU BET!!!

Watery free hot cocoa only at certain times, garbage cans in rooms that don't fit anything, iPod charger didn't charge phone, can't open bathroom door and closet door at same time, pool was cold and gross with cups and used bandaid with rust on ceiling and run down appearance overall at pool. It's these little things that add up. Guy at desk tried to be helpful but seemed clueless. Skate rental non existent in entire town. Good location and we liked the restaurant but room felt very small.
