We were 3 couples, every room were clean, the view was gorgeous, waterfront and mountain, free parking and walking distance to restaurants and boutiques. I would recommend to friends. If you plan a summer vacation, lots to do, kayak, pedal boat, etc. Only downside was the bathroom floor was not cleaned and shower curtain needed to be clean or change.

High Peaks looks pretty nice at first glance. Then you take the elevator (which my children refused to ride in after that first trip) and smell the oil and burning rubber as it grinds and jostles to a halt. Your room looks nice until you find a terrific view of the rooftop skylights with just a hint of mountain over the top of the roofline (room202). They told me at check in, 2 queen beds but I seriously think they were double beds and that they ripped me off. Trust me, when your partner is over 6'4" you know these things! The beds were very firm with the extra heavy "feather" comforters that are all the rage now. You awake feeling like you slept under 40 tons. The pillows were the same lumpy "faux feather" heavy stuff. You control your own heat/cool and that worked well. The bathroom was elegant and the shower was old but incredible with two shower heads. If you are trying to get a 12 year old boy to shower... you found gold!! If you are under 5'5" you will have trouble using the bathroom mirror for makeup and there is no other lighted place to do it in this room. The indoor pool is hot and dank with the hallway leading to it literally having a crumbling foundation. We did not eat on premise BUT the coffee was AWFUL. The front desk staff was extremely friendly. I'm sure spiders are a problem in many places due to the lake but the presence of HUGE (like think 2 plus inch) spiders with webs on EVERY recessed light (outside) in the main check in circle was a bit unnerving from the moment we arrived. We chose this hotel for the free boat usage and we were not disappointed in that aspect. I think next time we will try our luck elsewhere in Lake Placid. I hope someone refurbs this hotel soon before the indoor pool hallways literally collapses...

Dear maybenott:

Thank you for your feed back. I am very sorry we did not meet your expectations. Our team has reviewed your comments and will be taking immediate action. The pool area is scheduled for renovation in the spring of 2014.. We hope you will give the High Peaks Resort another chance in the future.

We enjoyed the hotel and the surrounding area. Our room however could have been better. We had 2 double beds ( that was all that was left). My husband and I slept in the first double bed and I felt like I was rolling down hill all night. The bed underneath was broken and on a severe slant. After 7 hours of travel this is not something I noticed before going to bed. The second bed was better but not much. The door to the bathroom isn't very private. If I was staying with my kids I would of been uncomfortable that there was a big window that anyone can look into as they pass. Our view was fabulous though! We enjoyed the restaurant and the staff was very friendly!

This hotel delivers on its 4 star promise. Tasteful, extremely comfortable rooms, lots of amenities and a staff that cares. Kudos especially to Lauren who took the time to find us a lake view room on the 4th floor this past weekend. We especially enjoyed the free use of their kayaks. It was conveniently located to all the charming shops and good restaurants along the lake. I didn't want to leave.

We stayed here for 3 nights in a Waterfront Room. Room was quite lovely with comfortable beds and a great bathroom. It was such a plus to walk outside our patio door in the morning, enjoy our coffee in a lounge chair and then hop in a kayak for a quick glide around Mirror Lake. Hotel is located right on the edge of Main Street and everything - restaurants, Olympic Ice Rink, shops - was very easily walkable. We had a package with gave us a credit for Dancing Bears and we had breakfast there one morning - also very good. Didn't get up to the main complex much as everything we needed was down by the waterfront.

We stayed at the High peaks Resort for 4 nights over the (Ontario) August long weekend. Had a really nice room over-looking the pool with a great view of the lake and surrounding mountains, including Whiteface. Had a wonderful stay and would recommend this hotel. Great location steps from all of the shops and restaurants. Really loved the outdoor patio/bar/pub, and would have spent more time there but the weather did not cooperate as it rained often over the 5 days we were there. We'd stay here again.

We were travelling through Lake Placid on our way home from the Cape and booked a room, mid-afternoon, at Lakeview Motor Inn through Hotels.com. Upon arrival, we discovered we had to cross the street to check in at the reception desk at High Peaks Resort. There, we were told that, due to a lag between their computers and Hotel.com's booking system, our room had been given to another couple. Rachel, the young woman working behind the desk, was obviously upset and frustrated by the mix-up and couldn't have been more apologetic. Rather than take out our frustration on her (the confusion obviously had nothing to do with her, personally), we decided to place a call to Hotels.com to get a refund/another room at a comparable price. While that call was being placed, Rachel was pounding away furiously on her keyboard and disappearing from time to time to speak with her manager. Just as we were about to be connected to the Hotels.com rep, she advised my husband to hang up the phone and, "because we were being so pleasant about the whole situation," upgraded us to a room within the High Peaks resort. To our delight, that room (#513) far exceeded our expectations. It was gorgeous with two queen beds, a fabulous bathroom, robes, slippers, a flat screen TV, balcony, AND a view of Mirror Lake. Score! With a great location, excellent accommodations, and a terrific front desk employee (dear Ms./Mr. Manager, Rachel is a delight and a definite asset to your hotel), we could not have been more pleased. We would love to return to High Peaks again for a longer stay and would not hesitate to recommend it to others. Thanks again, Rachel! You rock.
