“Fantastic Cross-Country Skiing!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

I took my 19 yr. old son to Mount Van Hoevenberg (MVH), in March 2013 for his first time ever skiing. We went during the week, so it was less crowded and cheaper.

The trails were impeccibly groomed and wide enough for plenty of skiers to use. We started out on the easiest trails on the first day, and worked out way up to a difficult one the following day.

That was probably not the best decision on our part, but we did very well regardless. Since it was not too busy during the week, it was less embarrassing when we fell. LOL!

I have been skiing for over 5 years now, and this by far has been the best skiing I ever did!!!

I also want to say that there are emergency crew around all the time for help if needed. I felt really safe with them there. There were some really scary spots that someone could get seriously hurt. It's a good idea to follow the rules and pay attention to signs and plan your time accordingly.

I can't wait to go back this year! I was just in Lake Placid for the weekend (Oct.18-20), and it already feels like ski season. :)

“A pristine hike in beautiful surroundings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

Our innkeeper told us of this trail which was so worthwhile. It is quite steep in parts and with all the Fall leaf litteR sometimes difficult to know what was underfoot but the 360 degree view from the top is very special and well worth the hike.

“Mt. Van Hoevenberg”

For those who haven't been on the trails for a year or more, this is a good place to start and get your mountain-legs back. Easy ascent, with varying terrain, to some enthralling views over the wilderness.

“You Can See Forever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2013

On our recent getaway in Lake Placid, we decided to ride the Cloudsplitter Gondola to the top of the mountain. What a wonderful experience! We would highly recommend this to any visitor, but would also definitely suggest to do this on a clear day. We were down to our last day there and, even though it was cloudy when we started the l-o-n-g gondola ride, by the time we reached the top, the clouds had cleared on one side of the mountain. The view was unbelievable! Unfortunately, we couldn't see nearly as far away on the other side.

So, for the double view, we would highly recommend a clear day. The ride on the gondola was so peaceful...........it was like we were gliding into heaven!
