Obudu Mountain Resort
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Obudu
Reviewed September 22, 2011

This trip was in November 2007.
I got a cab and drove all the way down from Calabar with my friend. It took us 6 hours but the scenery on the way there was so beautiful. As our cab went up the hill to the resort my heart was in my mouth because we got there at night and the road up the hill was narrow, winding. and the cloud cover was really low and it was dark. Boy, by the time we got to the ranch at the summit, we were speechless. It was so beautiful and there was a party going on already with a bonfire. We had already booked our rooms which are actually chalets of different sizes (double rooms for N16000 the time).
the rooms were cosey and clean.
Sunrise at obudu is something to be experienced. Breakfast and dinner were served buffet style. There's a beautiful water/ swimming park which you can get to via cable car. A lovely water fall, a metal canopy walk way and a forest reserve with monkeys etc. there are local guides who can give you a tour can use for a small fee. The locals are very friendly and hospitable (but just be as careful as you normally would in a new place), there's horse back riding, and facilities for parties if you come in a group. There's a ranch with the famous bulls Donald and erm.... can't remember his name. We bought yummy farm fresh yoghurt there.
It was incredible and we thoroughly enjoyed our selves and we spent just 2 nights. I'm definitely planning on going back. the main issue is getting there. The scenery on the way there is nice but the roads are not fantastic. You'll miss a lot of that but I suggest any visitor there should fly down to Bebi air strip from Calabar in Cross River State or Lagos, then and get a cab drive up the hill to the resort.

Room Tip: Reserve a room early, spaces are usually limited.

we apologize for responding this late to your review, but how ever, we appreciate your visit and comments.
we will also like to bring to your notice that the bad roads from Calabar is a ting of the past as the roads are now smooth and less stressful.

We drove from Calabar to Ubudu. That ride was long but pretty interesting nontheless! Once you enter Obudu you will be enchanted by its majestic view! But the Resort/hotel is quite expensive and it really is not worth it! Food was OK but really overpriced! Exhausted and couldn't wait to rest, we ignored the hefty price and booked sort of a family room. But my dream of an early rest and a peaceful sleep was shattered the moment i lay down on my bed - it smelled of URINE! yes URINE! We called the reception/housekeeping but there was no one answering so I had to call the cell number of the person in charge of housekeeping and he informed me he was already off! He told me he will inform the hotel himself ... I waited 30 minutes and no one came... So i finally had to g out of the cottage (in a cold Ubudu evening) walked towards the restaurant to inform someone! FInally after perhaps more than an hour of waiting ... someone came to change the sheets but it was still smelly so we requested to be moved somewhere else. To make matters worst, they did not have any electricity and we had to move our things in the dark using my cellphone light! What a disappointing trip!

The rooms were beautiful and the effect of the cloud on your face during the movement was an experience.

The amenities are world class standard...

The food is a combination of continental and local dishes that we couldn't get enough of.

I have promised my wife a second trip after this awesome experience (Just the 2 of us). The kids couldn't get enough of the fun.

Room Tip: The room we stayed was awesome, the noise level was low except in the morning when the Lawn mowers a...

Excellent place for getting away from it all. The location on the plateau is fantastic and the scenic views are simply amazing.

Accommodation is good with modern amenities but note that there is no air conditioning because normal temperatures are quite low especially at night. Services are basic -but come with a smile - and the meals are really just adequate, mainly buffets with homegrown beef & chicken.

Don't miss the walks and the cable car, both are really enjoyable. There is a golf course as well but it seemed to have fallen into disrepair while we were there.

A major downside though is that you have to endure a 5-hour drive to get there. Not bad for sight seeing but quite tiresome.

Room Tip: Ask for the Chalets. These have the best view and facilities.

The location is beautiful but the access is difficult. The hotel is in a shameful state of disrepair. The food is expensive and very bad. Though there is a cattle ranch in the area there is no fresh milk for breakfast and the meat served in the restaurant is hard and dry. We asked for a barbecue and after waiting for ages we were served burnt pieces of goat. The service is so unbelievably bad that they could not bother to put soap and toilet paper in the restaurant toilets. But they know how to charge a hefty price! Spare yourself the trouble and the money and travel to Cameroon or to East or South Africa.

Take the cable car. It's an experience you will never forget if you have never been in one.
forget your fear of heights briefly as the experience when you get up the mountain is one that cannot be forgotten in a long time.
The service in the restaurant is also very good.

I look forward to another holiday on the ranch...a longer one this time.

First the journey to the resort though long (7 Hours by road from Calabar) was exciting passing through all the villages. The climb up the mountain was interesting.
The location is appropriate for anyone who needs time off to just relax and forget all worries, ease off stress e.t.c.
