“Good vibe, good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2013

We visited the Schutzenhaus pub & restaurant at the hotel for a night out with the Harley guys from SA. The place was packed, but Ingo and his team served us very competently and always with a smile. The pub is the place to be in this town, but pace yourself, the bartender/owner can be naughty and adventurous - be warned! The restaurant is basic - no prices for décor, but the food is really good with a German influence. We all had "eisbein", and it was simply delicious. We will be back to have another round with Ingo.

Stayed here twice on the way to Windhoek and on return to Cape Town. The location is unexpected, in the middle of a sandy desert. The food is excellent - steak with 3 sauces especially. The rooms were spacious and the shower had the biggest head imaginable which after a long car journey was heaven!

Oldest German club in Deutsch-Süd-West. Traditional German food, but also african beef or game. Makes game taste like home! Smoker´s bar where you can frankly speak to the owner and learn about every day´s life in Namibia.

Our group of 4 had actually been advised not to go near Keetmanshoop if we could avoid it, but it is perfectly positioned along the Cape Namib Track between the bordr and Sossusvlei.

The rooms were nothing special but they were cheap and clean. The best, and surprising thing, here was the restaurant and bar. We had been in the car for hours and had decided on arrival that no matter what we were in for we were going to make the most of a meal and a few drinks to end the day. Our meals were fantastic - generous servings of both african and german dishes, free flowing wine and when we made it into the small bar area the shots started.

The bar manager was an older man who was happy to share a few stories and we kept him there until well after midnight. It was apparently his birthday and he was happy to hang out with some Aussies and a random Sth African guy who joined our table part way through the evening.

Great value, and we are still talking about our meal and the barman!

We stayed here for 1 night as we needed to get some repairs to our bakkie and stock up with provisions prior to heading to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Keetmanshoop is the only sizable town in the area.

The guest house is located on an industrial street just a short walk from the centre of town and museum. The buildings are a little strange with old and slightly more modern parts and a strong smell of cleaning products. But the rooms were spacious and clean with air con, tv, tea & coffee facilities, hot powerful showers, etc. There was plenty of secure parking directly outside the rooms (motel style).

The restaurant was deserted except for us and the background music was dire (it was a Easter Monday) but the food was tasty (German dishes, fresh fish, huge portions) and good value. Breakfast was also substantial and cooked to order.

Overall we found the Schutzenhaus to be convenient but a little overpriced compared with similar B&Bs in South Africa (it was the only B&B we visited in Namibia so we can’t really compare).

Clean simple rooms, very good restaurant and an ideal stopover on route to the border, Keetmanshoop is reasonably big considering it is in the middle of no where.

We stayed at Keetmanshoop on our way to Lüderitz (which is a very pleasant town). We had lunch at the Bird's Mansion and a coffee at the Central Lodge. Both places seemed much more nicer to me than the Schutzenhaus where we stayed.
Schutzenhaus is located outside the city center, in the industrial zone of Keetmanshoop.
The rooms are large and clean but miss any personal touch.
The waiter in the restaurant was a much more sympathic person than the owner of the guesthouse, who apparently did not figure out how to create a smile on his face ...
The food is also average and nothing special. We asked for a medium rare beef fillet which was too well-done and thus much to dry to eat.
I suggest you staying at the Bird's Mansion or Central Lodge when staying at Keetsmanshoop.
