This lodge was booked by our travel agent, and, different that as I usually do, I did not check anything previously (location, facilities, reviews...). After driving off the B8 on the right bank of the Okavango River, we entered a very well kept dirt road, and some km later a sign informed us to turn right in a tiny sandy way, almost a path, that led us to the front gate of the lodge after passing by some small communities. So, from the start, this place was an adventure. After entering the lodge we were greeted by a friendly Monika, one of the owners of the place, that checked us in and said she was taking us to our tent (!). I thought it was just an expression but once there we saw it was really a tent! But not an ordinary tent, it was very well furbished, with three beds, wooden floor, plenty of electric outlets (much more than we usually see in hotels), very weel lit and with a complete bathroom with hot shower! Was not for the canvas walls and ceiling we could imagine we were in a kind of hotel. And practically on top of the river bank! Then she explained us that, after dinner at night we should take care, for this particular hippo was sometimes coming up the bank for feeding around 8 pm. My 11 year-old daughter was amazed to sleep in a tent close to hippos, and my wife was pleased she could “camp” with so much comfort. Later on the afternoon we went to a boat ride they offer on the Okavango (sails out at 16h40) where we could see hippos up close, as well as gators, elephants, bocks, hogs and various birds. We called it a “wet safari” and on the end we were treated with a beautiful sunset while having a drink (choose their nice weisswein). Relaxing on the balcony over the Okavango after the ride is a nice way to start getting acquainted with the environment of the night that is coming, while having another bottle of wine. Dinner was served on a big common table, what is very nice to continue the chat you started with the other guests during the boat ride. It is like a big family dinner, and it makes you feel at home, so far away from your home. The night at the tent was a bonus. Around 3 a.m. we were waked up by a hippo chewing grass right behind our beds, some one or two meters behind the canvas wall – actually it hit one of the wooden frames that fixes the tent to the ground! When I thought this was the pinnacle of the night excitement, right before I caught back to sleep I heard a lion growl from the other side of the river (that I was told in the morning) that sent shivers up my spine! Bottom line, a fantastic experience, and Monika and her husband (forgot his name) are very kind and nice people. Don’t miss the place if you need a night rest while driving through the Caprivi!!! Just on observation: the pool was not working... but we did not missed it!
