“Kind Owner and Comfortable Hotel”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

We stayed at La Luna des Gorges for one night and we very much enjoyed our stay. We arrived late without a reservation and Lahcen (the owner) welcomed us in and made us a delicious dinner. Lahcen was quite kind and it was a pleasure to meet him. He also gave us a good deal on two rooms as we were traveling with another family as well.

We stayed in a family room and it was comfortable, had heat, WIFI and all of the amenities you would need.

We highly recommend La Lune des Gorges as it is a good, value accommodation for the Toudra Gorges.

Room Tip: We had a family room and it was quite spacious and comfortable.

This hotel is perched atop a high corner within the gorge road. We looked at the Hotel soleil across the road and it was full of camping biking 4x4 people in large groups, with very expensive rooms. We came back to this, and immediately were able to park safely behind gates in shletered bays. The hotel has been designed as a labour of love over 2 and a half years by the owner, who is also the cook and receptionist!
Once shown to our room, with a tiny metal Kasbah keyring with our room key on, we were able to settle in to hot showers, get our washing done from the previous days, and get straight on the net for free. The rooms have balconies overlooking different parts of the palm covered valley. Where you stay is a matter of personal choice, but we loved it here. Note that the Mosque is very close and if call to prayer disturbs you, take earplugs!
The decor is in stone and gives the whole building an older kasbah / large riad feel.Everywhere are large carpets, nick-nacks and curios. The immaculate, clean rooms have a double and single bed in with a separate curtained bathroom with european toilet, sink and large shower.
Evening meal was an immensely tasty salad, bread and olives. Turkey brochettes, and succulent fruit. All cooked to order. This was served in a comfortable basement seated restaurant in traditional style with squashy cushions and furnishings.
The outside has a large seating area around the outer edge, along with shower and toilet facilities, again, immaculately clean for use by campers.
Evening meal bed and breakfast cost 300 dirhams for two at time of writing. This was akin to staying in a riad wihout the proximity to your fellow guests! Fantastic personalised charm in what appears to be an over-run area of hotels.
Say no more . . . .?

Room Tip: Ask to see the rooms - the owner is accommodating and happy to let you choose your view!

We wanted to stay in the Gorge itself rather than the nearby package tour town of Boulmane Du Dades. We had a choice of rooms and selected ones with bathrrom attached. The bed was comfy, had a mosquito net (though not required at this time of the year), the bathroom was enormous and the water was hot (but be aware that it is solar and runs out fairly quickly when the hotel is full). This is like a cross between a hotel and a hostel - there is a common area where you can relax, a couple of terraces overlooking the river below or to enjoy the stars at night and it is possible to order a meal from the menu. Be aware that there is nowhere to eat nearby so if you choose not to eat at the hotel, you will have a very long drive (well over 45mn). Having said that, the meals are home cooked and filling.

Ibrahim (one of the brothers from the family) took us on a guided hike up a concealed canyon. There is no way you will find the entry without him and it was only 250dh for two hours for the three of us. Sometimes it can be hard to find someone around and security was a slight concer when the hotel was full as there are no locks on the door (we just put our important documents in the boot of our car). Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
