What a treat, terrific hospitality, interesting decor and welcoming staff. We really enjoyed watching the sun set and the moon rise on the roof, and our rooms were totally unique. I highly recommend this hotel.

With its genuin mud structure, simple but stylish interior and great location with a great view over Djenne, DD is truly an example of entrepeneurship in a very mystic and fabolous place! We were just in Djenne (Oct 2011) and found this the perfect place to stay for our visit. It is clean and nicely appointed. Sophie makes all feel welcome. The food is amazing. We really enjoyed our stay at the Djenne Djenno. Even though there were few travelers in October, the place seemed full and all tables were taken for dinner. Highly recommend.

Beautiful and charming hotel offering a relaxing retreat after a hectic trip from bamako and a day tour around Djenne. You can enjoy a pleasant sunset on the roof and then have lovely dinner under the stars. The owner, Sophie is really nice and helpful. The tour guide she called for us was excellent and gave us a real local insight of the town.

Room Tip: Treat yourself and stay in the suite, totally worth it.

We stayed here for just one night and liked the hotel. Since the hotel is built with mud-brick, you get a sense of Djenne as soon as you get there. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. It is fairly close to the city by car, though not walkable. Terrace has a good view of the Djenne mosque and we enjoyed having cocktails there after an afternoon of sightseeing. Probably the best place to stay in Djenne.

I'd describe the place as simple but tasteful. Sophie really made all the difference in our trip. Although the hotel's usual driver was not available, she arranged for us to meet with a driver so that we could maximize the rest of our stay in Mali (and fortunately avoid leaving Djenne by bus and bush taxi as we had arrived). The use of a laptop for checking email boosted our morale too. Drinks on the terrace at sunset...ahhhh. And after several days struggling in French, was a real relief to meet someone with better English than I speak and also a sense of humor. Our plumbing worked as well as any place else in Mali. And a Tusen Tack to Sophie for banning guides from inside the hotel. Too bad she can't franchise throughout West Africa.

The Djenne Djenno really saved our lives. We were staying in Djenne for several months with a family, but came to the Djenne Djenno every week for a delicious gourmet dinner, the music, and the signature activity of the Djenne Djenno: drinking a cocktail on the terrace with Sophie and watching the sunset. It was always beautiful, peaceful, and delicious. Sophie and the hotel staff were also incredibly friendly, helpful, and delightful. When I got very sick near the end of our stay, we simply moved to the Djenne Djenno for the incredibly comfortable and beautifully decorated rooms (with air conditioning!) Sophie was wonderful to us, really going way above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that we were comfortable, well fed, and as happy as we could be under the circumstances. The atmosphere and comfort of this hotel really saved my life. Thank you!

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms are worth it! They are beautiful!
