“Lovely friendly place, relaxing stay”
Reviewed August 10, 2014

If you are thinking of going to Gambia just book it. It hooks you in and you find yourself going back again and again.

Myself and my 16 year old daughter stayed at the Sheraton in April 2013. It was a mother and daughter relaxing holiday and the Sheraton was just perfect for our needs. We had been to Gambia twice before and stayed at the Kombo Beach, which was also lovely but much more expensive and not as good value overall.

We liked the fact that the Sheraton was away from the hustle and bustle of the local town, although we did visit a couple of Gambian schools whilst there - well worth doing (take lots of pens, books etc). Staff were incredibly friendly, we felt very comfortable and everyone was welcoming and friendly.

The F&B Manager Mario was extremely professional, friendly and seemed to have his finger on the pulse of everything that was happening in the bar and restaurant areas. Food was completely amazing. We have stayed in many all inclusive hotels worldwide and the food at the Sheraton Gambia is high quality and varied. I liked the fact that we weren't fed a constant diet of chips and pizza which is what you get at some other all inclusives. Fresh fish was available twice a day and was accompanied by a salsa-dancing chef. You just don't get that at home...

We visited the spa for manicures and pedicures - it was ridiculously good value and we couldn't believe how little we paid (about £10 a treatment) for the services we got.

Every evening there is a live band/singer - high quality entertainment that we really appreciated as we sat in the bar overlooking the beach with the sun going down.

We will be back to Gambia for a 4th time next year and are planning to stay at the Sheraton again. Can't wait!

Room Tip: If you get a room that overlooks the lobby you can access the wifi in your room

I visited The Gambia in june 2014, this was my first time. I stayed at the sheraton for 6 days. the views from the rooms are simply breathtaking. Every room had a unique view- mostly overlooking the ocean/beach. The beach is pretty clean, i often saw people jogging/running on the beach. A walk down the beach takes you to a fishing place, here you get to see the catch for the day and also when the fishermen are set to go fishing. All the staff were simply amazing and friendly. In general i think Gambians are very friendly. For people who look forward to working out on vacation, the gym is adequately equipped. They have a lot of cats in the hotel which live right there, i was told its for rat control etc. The hotel also has a lot of natural theme to it, for example you have the reception kept at warm temperature. There is also a craft shop, free wifi area, taxis and a tour guide centre all in the hotel. The only down side for anyone who wants a busy area is that the sheraton is located in a quite neighbourhood, away from the buzz of places like the senegambia. Food was good and very very cheap i must say. I would definitely be staying at The Sheraton if i do go to The Gambia again!

Stayed at this hotel for a week. The pool was nice and just a few steps to the beach.
Breakfast is very good!! Dinner options is good. Staff at the hotel are soo friendly and helpful. The bar staff are the best and always making you laugh. Be careful with the taxi drivers!!! I recommend having a recommendation of a driver who will take you around during your stay that you can trust. Most of the taxi drivers outside of the hotel can be too full on.... the hotel is located on the beach and is ideal for beach walks / runs.

Excellent conference hotel. Rooms need to be renovated a bit (Especially doors and windows - not easy to open due probably from humidity). General maintenance is ok! The personal is nice, helpfully and always smiling which is the most positive point of this hotel. Food is standard

I travelled to the Sheraton Gambia Hotel in January with a friend for 7 days. I'm always looking for new locations to visit and this one didn't disappoint.

It was honestly the most relaxing and peaceful holiday I have ever had, we spent most of our days reading or sleeping by the pool/ beach occasionally stopping to eat, swim or walk along the beach. The beach and pool areas were very clean and we didn't have any issues getting a sun bed- or a parasol (I have very fair skin) so again, this was a big plus point.

The food was great, lots of variety and all superbly cooked- possibly the best food I have had at an all inclusive hotel. I think in this case, only having one place to eat meant they could really focus on what they were cooing and the quality- and it really paid off. Another plus point for me was the staff, especially the restaurant staff who were very friendly and helpful.

Free wifi was available in the lobby so we had a morning trip through the lobby after breakfast- in some ways this was nice as we had to shut off completely whilst we were on the beach/ by the pool. We had lots of early nights and early mornings- not great if you are looking for evening entertainment.

We spent one day out on a trip, booked through the hotel which was nice to see a bit of the country. We joined up with another couple to customise one of the trips they already offered which was nice; we went to see monkeys, crocodiles, a market, a school and a beach. Seeing and feeding the wild monkeys was a great experience, as was driving through the country, visiting the crocodiles seeing the museum at the same site and going to the market- it was certainly an experience! However the school visit was very staged as though to encourage tourists to donate lots of money- we actually got the opportunity to visit another school whilst we were there which was organised through Girlguiding Gambia which really gave us something to compare the hotel trip to. If you get the chance to donate money or goods try to find another place to do so- we took games, pencils etc. with us to pass out, all of which were very well received by children we met/ passed by on our travels. The beach was nice but was just another beach and by that point I was ready to go home.

The weather was great, getting up to 31c some days and providing some well needed winter sun. There was a breeze coming off the sea though so it never felt too hot.

Obviously when booking a hotel in this area you have to bear in mind that a 5 star here isn't going to be comparable to a 5 star in the UK. If you are willing to accept this before going, you will have a great time- just let go and enjoy the experience! If you cant accept this, choose a different hotel.

If you are looking for somewhere to unwind this is the perfect place, I would recommend it for that reason.

Very clean and well maintained spacious ground and extended beach. Nice food with good variation. Nice and courteous staff and very responsive. I spent Christmas there with my wife and Son. He was never tired of running around the beach and It was tough for me running after him. We had to extend our stay for 3 more days.

Room Tip: Chose the rooms on the ground closest to the beach, I think they call them deluxe Baobab or so. You...

Lovely hotel a bit out of the way so quite which was what we were looking for. Service , rooms and overall impression was better than we have had in Europe so to get it in TG was unexpected. Beach and grounds were well maintained with bar staff very helpful. Food varied and well presented with staff serving professional
Overall a great holiday in a great location
