“ok, considering the country”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

Some of the reviews on TripAdvisor made us fear the worst about the country and its amenities in general, but things turned out ok.
Beautiful setting, fantastic baobab trees, beach immediately in front of hotel (and not spoiled by hordes of 'guides' etc...), go for the all-in if you can: buffets are not the gastronomic top but they are very diverse and often rich (lobster tails e.g.).
Pool water could be a bit cleaner and the whole place has seen somewhat better times.
Service perfectly ok. Very friendly people all over.
Note that there is little to do in the Gambia except for fleeing the European winter, but it is ideal for that purpose and this hotel is perfectly up to such.

We stayed one week at the hotel on an all inclusive basis flying from Gatwick. The timing of the flights and no time difference was great giving near enough 6 full days in the sun. Our room was on the ground floor and we moved sun loungers to just outside the room which was perfect. The room could have done with a bit of decorating, covering up the marks on walls where people have slapped shoes on walls to get the mosquito's. If you have a problem with the mosquito's then housekeeping will spray down the room for you - we didn't have a problem with them. The swimming pool was too cold to do lengths in but was great for a refreshing dip, there is also another pool by the spa area which is nice for first thing in the morning as the sun doesn't really hit the beach area of resort until 10am. The staff are so friendly and helpful, food was fresh but after a week we got feed up of salads, but the variety of meat/fish dishes was plentiful each lunch & dinner time. Breakfast catered for everyone - we felt we ate too much!! Had a massage by Daniel, was very good but the table was squeaky, spoke with management they are aware of it and trying to sort out a new one but don't let that put you off. We used the steam room and sauna, staff happy to switch it on for you when needed. More staff would be a good idea on the bar but the service with a smile makes up for the little wait. So if you are wanting a week in the sun and don't want to do much else then this is a perfect location. Enjoy.

Room Tip: Hotel spread out a bit so if want to be near the bar/pool area then ask but we where in block 6 away...

As usual the Gambian people gave us a a very friendly welcome.
We arrived at the hotel and were upgraded to a de luxe room which was extremely nice, although a bit of a walk to the hotels facilities.
The bed was King or Queen size and comfortable and the bathroom was massive.
We made for the first meal at the Buffet and Bar and the food was very good and fresh, although a little repetetive.
Now then, having had our meal we ordered drinks and my partner asked for Soda Water with her wine. we were told Soda water wasn't on the all inclusive and we would have to pay!
Then it became apparant that there were charges some foods on the buffet. eg. You could have what they referred to as Lobster tails, but not King Prawns!
I guess there were other things they charged for but I avoided them.
Also at the bar there were a lot of charges for anything other than local drinks.
All cocktails,International brands, Cold coffee's cost extra.
The wine was acceptable though and the Gin and tonic flowed freely which suited us.
They shut the bar at eleven unless you were prepared to pay for it.
During the day the lads who work at the hotel were very attentive and looked after our needs.
The Gym was a bit of a dissapointment with dated equiptment, some of which didn't work properly, but it was clean and a water station and towels were available.
The outside pool to my mind was dangerous. It was extremely cold at all times and the edge of it was surrounded by very rough concrete. Who know's what would happen to anyone slipping on that.
The pool wasn't tiled. It was lined with some sort of plastic which didn't reflect the hot sun and warm the pool. It appeared to be a very hastily constructed job!!!
I compared it with pools at the Kariba hotel and Senagambia Hotel and they were totally different.
The beach was very nice but most people stayed in the hotel gardens. The sea was also cold being the Atlantic.
All in all the place is ok and the staff do their best, but I heard people saying it has gone downhill over the years and needs a revamp. I would agree with that.

This was part of a twin-centre holiday, the other part being at Mandina Lodges (up country so to speak). We stayed at the Sheraton for one week and had a great time. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the location of the hotel right by the beach is superb. We really liked our rooms which faced out to the sea, they were clean and well equipped throughout our stay. The food overall was pretty good with a few different choices of restaurant available.

Really enjoyed The Gambia for some easy winter sun however I have to agree with some of the recent reports.
Hotel was pretty average, service was poor (although the staff were v friendly) food was not great, pool was freezing, spa was terrible, mosquitos everywhere in our room and in general just needing some money spent improving facilities.

We recently had a week at the Sheraton Hotel, this was our third holiday in The Gambia but the first time we had stayed at the Sheraton and also our first "All-Inclusive" holiday. Very pleased with the hotel, location is right on the beach, bit away from the livelier resorts, but that suited us fine. Service, rooms, food etc all very good and matched our expectations! Will certainly go back to the Gambia and would be more than happy to stay at the Sheraton!!

We were blown away by the views when we arrived. The elevated lobby gives a real sense of excitement when just hours before we were in cold and icy Gatwick.

It wasn't the same standard as a Sheraton I'd stayed at in the US (its Gambia Style) but it has a fantastic beachside location and large swimming pool area. The rooms are spread out and scattered over a wide area along the cliff side, which gives it a nice feel and the lighting at night amongst the Baobab trees made it look spectacular. Our room was very nice, clean and the bed comfortable which for me makes a massive difference.

Whilst the bar had a good atmosphere, it was sometimes chilly at night and people tended to disappeared after dinner. The food was plentiful and the staff were excellent and always friendly and helpful.

Its around 15 minutes from the main resort area but we were just looking for somewhere to relax for the week and get some sun. It was perfect for us and we certainly hope to go back.
