“Basic & adequate, but improving”

Yes, it's bit shabby in places, but it's cheap, and the locals are allowed in.

Contrary to some reviewers, this is NOT the best. It is also NOT however the worst, and I suspect these reviewers are just trying to redress the balance. Had I saved up for the holiday of a lifetime, and gone on a package deal, I suspect I'd have been very disappointed with this hotel.

Having gone independently with my eyes open, I got what I was expecting for £10 per night, and was very happy.

This is a very friendly hotel, and is recently under new management who are making improvements to the rooms.

Breakfast was OK, and lots of it.

I very much enjoyed my stay, and got the real "Gambia" experience, rather than a 5 star cocoon.

Stayed at Mansea many times and will always return. Cheap and cheerful and the staff are unbeatable!! Baba, jombo, kebba, biran and so many more. I feel like more of a family member now than a guest :)

we were out at the manses 14th march to 4th april and big things are a foot. the hotel has been sold. the kitchen and dining hall are well on there way to be refitted. next i think will be the reseption and bar area. a show room with well fitted up to date shower room, new king size bed, fridge and new flat screen tv it looks great the new rates for rooms will not be out untill september. what has been said to me by the managers is that "old customers will get a good deal" and he said "the folk who have been with them through the bad times they want us back". Only time will tell but i think it was said in good faith

The worst hotel ever in Gambia.Mould, peeling paint in room, bathroom terrible.Had 5 days of drilling, banging climbing over furniture, tools in corridor to get to room as 95 Nigerian visitors were arriving,so their rooms were all made good with decent furniture put in maintenance carried out. Could not get any breakfast during their stay until they left as nowhere to sit & no food left first day & then had to wait until more was prepared(left waiting nearly hour until ready)expected to eat at dirty tables(cleared own tables just to have a coffee)Woke every morning 7-7.30am from them banging on doors, shouting. Staff were only good part of hotel especially Fatima our room cleaner who actually cared & did everything she could to make sure we were ok..Shown newly refurbished showroom that will be ready next season, really nice but did not persuade us to return due to the disgusting accommodation they expected us to stay in this visit. Our block was F block. Travel to Gambia twice a year and have stayed in different hotels and know what to expect, but even we could not believe how bad this place was.Have added photos

Room Tip: Do not take room in F Block

Stayed at this hotel for the second time in three years. Staff are helpful and friendly setting is good, but it had definitely taken on an unkempt look. Well whilst I was there it changed hands and work is now afoot to transform it into a 5 star accommodation. The gardens were preened and the poolside painted. Some rooms have already been gutted and redecorated with new tiled bathrooms. My only worry is - will it be too expensive and fancy for me to stay there in the future??

My partner and I stayed at this hotel between 27/01/2012 - 10/02/2012. The hotel is basic so don't be expecting too much but is clean and very close to the beach. We found ourselves spending most of our time on the beach and only used the hotel as a place to sleep. The staff are very friendly, especially the bar man called Jambo.

WEATHER - was lovely and hot when we went - around 34 degrees every day. At night the temperature did drop a bit but was by no means cold.

GAMBIAN MONEY - The largest note is 100 so when you get some out of the cash machine there will be a big wad of them. Most of their money is old and tatty. There are cash machines on the main strip where all the restaurants are, near the hotel.

LOCALS - They are harmless enough and most wish to speak to you about what their business is. We meet two local Gambian's called Mamas and Jime, who are often outside the Mansea Beach Hotel. They are both very friendly and kind people who really looked after us and made our holiday special by cooking us fresh Barracuda over a fire on the beach. We would really recommend speaking to them about this experience. They also offer a taxi service as well as a safari tour. Gambian's are required to carry a identity card which means they can work with tourists, which they both have. I have attached a picture of them to help you see them when your there.

Overall we really enjoyed our holiday to Gambia and will be going back next year. It is a great destination for being a short flight (5 & half hrs), being in the same time zone, having great weather and lovely locals.

This hotel has been given really bad reviews, but I'm here 2 clear it up..Gambia is in Africa, and the way I see it is if u want 2 go 2 a luxury hotel, mansea beach it's not 4 u.. But if u want that family feeling and just b looked after by the staff, (which I know call my close friends) they mansea beach is just the best.. The security walks around all night, so that u r safe and sound..my kids 11&7, did not want 2 go home.. The only downside is the beach which is located 5 mins away, the Gambians will hassle u and just b really annoying. Same with the guys outside the hotel, they say that all tourist shud take the green taxis oppose 2 the yellow ones, and they can get pretty angry if u don't..but overall the mansea beach is a great place 2 stay!!
