dont worry about taking a first holiday in the Gambia as its a great place to go with wall to wall sunshine and smiles!! We love it as its only just over 6hrs away and the sun comes up at 8am and you can still be sunbathing at 6pm! Having been to other hotels in the area I really recommend this one as it is great for hygiene standards .. dont get me wrong...its not 5* rooms...they are basic....but you are in a third world country and how long do you spend in your room anyway? When you get back after a day in the sun you can sit on your balcony or terrace (no high rise here!) and relax .. grab a bottle of wine from the local supermarket .. its cheap enough.. we only b and b in the hotel and go into the village to eat at night .. but the staff are great at looking after you and wait on you round the pool...and at breakfast, the standards are high on customer service...some entertainment several evenings but plenty to do only a few steps outside the hotel. Our favourite times are March and late November...its great being there leading up to Christmas..all the trimmings come out end of 1st wk of December..we are on our 10th visit this year and going for 3 weeks!! cant wait.

Well placed for all of your needs as it's next to 'the strip'. We had a garden room which was nicely shaded or most of the day. We found the rooms to be basic but comfortable, with no coffee or tea facilities unfortunately. You could always pack a travel kettle if you really can't wait in the mornings but it is readily available at breakfast. You do get Spent most days at the pool or beachside. The quiet pool was just that, quiet. The food was ample and sitting outside to eat breakfast in he sun was fantastic. All areas very clean both inside and out.
Superb wildlife throughout our stay from vultures and Harris hawks to egrets to monkeys. Quite hilarious on some occasions.
It's probably not the best hotel but it is definitely well situated and trouble free with few children.

We stayed one week at the Senegambia in March. This was our first visit to The Gambia & chose to go for some sun. Having read several reviews we chose this hotel for the extensive gardens & the wildlife, birds & monkeys etc. when we arrived, check-in was efficient but the first room we were shown was small & drab so we asked to see another (in I block) which was better - still basic & a bit shabby, needing a refurb but spacious with a large comfortable bed, TV, table, chairs, bath & shower. The fridge was a bit old & smelly & kept turning off for no reason. It was a bit like a Butlins chalet in the 1960s. Still, the hotel grounds were very well tended, the pools & pool areas very nice. There was some kind of entertainment every night. We were bed & breakfast so ate out most nights. There was plenty of choice at breakfast - omelettes were excellent, nice bread, various fruit, yoghurts etc although the coffee was awful. We tried various places to eat at night and found the better ones off the main strip, up the road to the right. They were a bit more expensive but much nicer than those on the main strip. Back at the hotel, make sure to see the vulture feeding at 11.00 am every day & also ask about a guided bird watch in the hotel grounds - you'll see all sorts of birds. We also arranged other bird watching trips with the hotel guide. We were not overly bothered by the locals - they are friendly, not aggressive or too pushy & were fine if you just politely tell them "no thank you". We will definitely return as we want to see more of the country.
