This was our first time in The Gambia having followed advice from Trip Advisor we chose both the hotel and type of room and were not disappointed with either. We celebrated NYE at the hotels Gala Buffet sat around the pool with wonderful food and good entertainment. As we were on B&B we ate out every night on the strip we tried most restaurants mix of Chinese, Lebanese and traditional all of which were good value. Yes there were plastic chairs and the decor was basic but don't forget where you are. When walking about the locals would try to engage you in conversation but a firm no thank you with a cheery smile was all that was required. It is worth a trip to the hotel next door at 11.30am to see the feeding of the vultures, followed by a 5 min walk along the beach to the forest to see the monkeys. Overall an enjoyable holiday with plenty to see and do. So much so we have booked again for this year.

Room Tip: Try to go for a superior room in the gardens which are in small blocks and have lovely views.

This hotel met all expectations. Stayed in a deluxe room, plenty space, excellent size balcony. As a bird watcher, the gardens were excellent for bird watching. There were various bird baths which were filled every day. which encouraged the birds, restaurant staff also put food out in the morning. If you are looking to go on any Bird watching trips don't go passed Ida Colley who is a Professional Bird Watching Guide, (only one of seven women bird watching guides in The Gambia). She was excellent and tries very hard to find any target birds you wish to see. She is based outside the hotel in the Tourist Information area. The women guides find it difficult as there are assumptions that they are not as good as the men. My friends and I were staying on a B & B basis, however the restaurants outside the hotel were really good, my favourite being the Paradiso which made the best Pizzas and Garlic Bread. The only down side of the holiday, was the erosion of the beach outside the kairaba and the Senegambia Hotel. My fri

We have been before and it is still pretty much the same.
Lovely grounds. lovely pool but main clientele seems to be old brits seeking winter warmth.
trad Breakfast english
Restaurant really for people frightened to leave the site but
Local strip very sad. Either English chips or lebanese
But all very cheap
African food last on the menu

Nice place for the birds, the pool and the sun

Room Tip: anywhere away from the entrance

This hotel had been recommended to us as a great place for winter sun, by friends who have been 10 times over the last 12 years. It certainly lived up to that billing, the low rise buildings, lovely grounds and universally friendly staff were great tho a 5 star rating is a bit over the top.

Avoid the economy and standard rooms which are either in or overlooking the car park and since there seems to be no emission control in Gambia the fumes are pretty noxious. The deluxe rooms however, are in small blocks in a horseshoe shape around the lovely gardens, are a good size and comfortable standard. Those on the ground floor have patios leading straight onto the garden and 1st floor rooms have good size balconies but only stair access. There are a few suites too.

The only meal we took in the hotel was breakfast which was a really good buffet, great choice of fresh food and good level of staff. Outside the hotel there is an excellent choice of restaurants serving everything from local fare, Lebanese, Chinese, Indian, Italian, Mediterranean, steak and fish and all at very reasonable prices.

The hotel pool bar is the pick of the bunch and happy hour between 5:30 and 6:30 in the evening is great value. The Havanna bar in the car park is pretty poor though and would be outdone by most main railway station bars in UK. The only other choice is the monsoon bar which is tiny soulless room with a layout that is more suited for a waiting room than a nightcap.

The gardens are lovely with many interesting plants and trees, an abundance of bird life, a resident troop of monkeys and at least one large lazy lizard. The pool area was clean and seemed to have plenty of beds and attendants. The beach in front of the hotel has obviously been lovely at some time, but is very seriously eroded now, reduced to no more than a path width on the left hand side. It also isn't cleaned so there are a lot of cigarette ends and the like in the sand. However the hotel staff on the beach are great and there are plenty of comfortable beds and fixed sun shades. Once down onto the beach proper past the sand bags concrete wall and steel poles, there is several miles of sand to walk along in either direction and it's not too tricky to navigate past the local traders who are not at all aggressive.

Finally the weather was just about perfect, between 29-30 everyday with a mild breeze in the morning. Definitely a place to go for relaxing winter sun.

Room Tip: Go for a 1st floor deluxe room or ground floor if you have restricted mobility

We have been travelling to The Gambia for 15 years, and have stayed in the kariba for most of our stays, the grounds are lovely & are looked after well by the gardeners . The hotel & staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble ! Thank you to the girls in the spa, Bintou, Yama & Kumba, who looked after us, we went home nice & relaxed ! The weather as always was fantastic, and we also enjoyed some lovely food ! Looking forward to seeing you all again soon !

Was a bit annoyed when we arrived that our room was not available but we were upgraded to the large room with the wrap around balcony. Stayed there for two nights and then moved to a better room than we had paid for which was right next door overlooking the gardens worth paying extra for the better room. The staff are great always smiling and you soon get to know them. The beach was a disappointment covered in cigarette butts and very stony. The hotel was a bit too quiet for us no music water aerobics etc. The pool was very cold and I never used it.. The Senegambia next door has a lovely beach and is very lively. Celebrated my birthday here and the staff went all out to make it a great day with a chorus of happy birthday at breakfast with tom tom drums and cutlery. Then the bed was all done with flowers and a birthday cake delivered to the room along with another chorus of happy birthday. The people are amazing. Its a pity because until there is someone other than Thomas Cook doing these flight I will not be going back as we were like sardines in a can.

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe room or the superior deluxe if you want something special.

The hotel staff were all good except for the staff on the front desk who were unfriendly and unhelpful.
Breakfast was good.
Bedroom adequate (a little old fashioned 3star hotel standard).
Bed uncomfortable and pillows were awful!!
Hotel grounds are superb!
Swimming pool good.
Wildlife at the hotel is great!! look out for the Chameleons, Minotor Lizards, and Monkeys…
Gambia is much safer than people let on!!!
