A true traveller paradise, if you want to get off the beaten track and see the real Gambia with some of the friendliest people you will meet, head to the Old Bakadaji bar. Great food, in great company. Come here to chill out and take in the atmosphere. Well worth a visit especially for the live music on a Friday and Saturday for a Julbrew or two.

A great place to chill and escape from the tourist scene. A unique bar with friendly staff and lovely owners that are warm and welcoming. The food is delicious. It is definitely worth a visit on a Friday or Saturday night where you can enjoy a Julbrew whilst listening to excellent live music...there is always someone around ready for a dance if you fancy it :-) Enjoy The Gambian experience without the hassle!!
Will definitely be back next time I am in The Gambia.

Really lovely atmosphere at this quirky local bar thats part run by a young English lady. She has taken Gambia as her second home and put a lovely spin on this place by offering good plates of local food done to western standards along with live music on Friday and Saturday nights. The beers are always cold and they have a wide selection of both local and international spirits. I recommend going for the live local music and getting the chicken and chips or prawn and chips. or just try some local food, its all delicious and local prices too meaning you can save money for drinking. Clientele are also a mixture of locals and expat and NGO workers making for some interesting chats over a table and such an antidote to the run of the mill tourist haunts. Highly recommended.

I have been to the Old Bakadaji a number of times now and it is truly a Gambian experience. If you are looking for extremely atmospheric place away from the generic touristville then this is the place to go. I believe it is the oldest establishment in the Gambia and with it unique feature of an enormous tree in the middle of the bar it stands out above the rest. Sit down with Dodou, the manager, and you will be thoroughly entertained with its steep history while sitting under the shade of the tree drinking a cold Julbrew. The food is also of very high standard and have a variety of dishes including an African dish of the day. But the best thing about this place is the atmosphere. You have Gambians and Europeans all mixing together without any usual bumster crap you will encounter at touristville.
