i am an experienced world traveler of matrure years, traveling alone or with friends, picky but not overly so, who does much advance research for trips, and am therefore generally happy with my hotel choices.
WELL IT'S NOT THE MOUNTAIN VIEW OR THE PANORAMIC, BUT LALIBELA'S CLASSIC DOESN'T DISAPPOINT.
stayed here in 2013 and again in 2014.

Our tour group stayed here for 3 nights. I had a twin room to myself with views through trees to mountains. Clean and quiet, and there was hot water once the shower had run for a while (do your laundry first!)

The hotel is about 30 mins walk from town or you can get a taxi our tuktuk. There are souvenir shops and a bar close by.

I liked the hotel as it was quiet (woken by birdsong - far enough from town that the 5.30am Lent mass broadcast didn't disturb me!) and has a nice little garden with seating, but I'd suggest eating elsewhere as the food was really average.

A very very nice , seventies look hotel, clean with wi fi and pleasant garden. The rooms are spacious , verywell decorated, and the dining room big. Breakfast is not super but try the eggs !!
Coffe very good. Also the little gift shop is very interesting , selling everything someone would like to bring back from Ethiopia! Rational prices. A real surprise in this biblical city...

Room Tip: First floor overlooking the reception down!

I have stayed in the Roha many times, and have a soft spot for it. The hotel itself is desperate for renovation but still has a 'feel' to it. The staff are very loyal and work hard. People have mentioned the lack of view - go up on the roof! You cannot beat the view - sit with a drink and watch the sunset. Alternatively, sit out the back and watch the birds and monkeys. The food, since the buffet was introduced, is not as good but there is always pasta and tomato sauce. Unfortunately the tour groups demand low prices! This is a poor region, with money going into preservation of the Churches and life is hard for the community. Go along to the market and see just how little fresh food there is. Rooms are adequate, clean if old, with a TV that may or may not work. It is about a 15 - 20 minute walk to the first Churches - visit the few shops opposite and enjoy a drink along the way. Also, there is an excellent shop in the hotel. You'll get an ambience here that you won't get elsewhere, and the character of the hotel fits with the location.

The rooms are comfortable if not luxurious however you have to consider where you are.The staff were very friendly and helpful. free WIFI in the foyer only . Do not forget to sit up on the rooftop terrace and view the 360 Deg. view and watch the sunset. The location is in walking distance to the monolithic churches. The food was also good but not memorable.

We first stayed in the Roha in 1993 and did so just now once again (5 nights). Happy to say, the Roha is still going strong! It was a happy reunion indeed. Comfortable room. Friendly staff. Good food. Free Wifi. Not to mention the roof top terrace, with a 360 degrees views of the surrounding mountains and a garden filled with bird song! What more can I say? The hotel is walking distance away from the churches in a quiet part of town. Warmly recommended. Come and try it out yourselves!

Room Tip: All rooms are good.
