Amazing views from every direction. A very unique restaurant with wonderful gardens. We were told the restaurant is owned by a Scottish woman and that 2 architects from Addis Ababa designed it. The food was great, especially the soup and fresh squeezed lemonade. Homemade rolls. We had dinner there and watched the beautiful sunset. Be careful if it is rainy because the walkway is slippery.

Ben Abeba is an oasis in the town of Lalibela. Having eaten at two other restaurants as well, neither even comes close to the excellence of Ben Abeba. We wound up eating every dinner every night that we were in Lalibela and we were delighted and satisfied each time. The tasty shepard's pie is a nice change from the cuisine in Ethiopia, and the pasta made with the homemade tomato sauce is simple, but very appealing. The cakes and cookies offered for dessert are a great way to end the meal. The staff are locals, who have been trained so well, and try so very hard. The manager and owner are attentive as well. We witnessed a wedding proposal one night just as the power went out--so enchanting especially in this Gaudi-esqe building. It also started pouring down rain, whereupon the owner offered us all a ride back to our hotel. And the driver refused a tip. Such service!. It is the only restaurant I can recommend in Lalibela.

The restaurant consists of a serie of small platforms (somewhat like giant leaves) hitched on a contorted, rather Dali-esque, skeleton, flanked by deep ravines. The view (un the mountains and dales is breathtaking (Bradt's guide ranks it as "worth dying for". No exaggeration there).
The menu is rather short, but well composed. The soups are excellent. Meat dishes very good. There is a last course available, and (at least some) very tasty vegetarian dishes.
The service is very good (quite a challenge given the odd layout) and friendly. In the evenin, there are blankets against the chill and (at least the time we visited) an outdoor bonfire for the guests.

Easily the best restaurant in town. The menu changes daily and they use fresh ingredients. The owner is wonderful and came to our table to meet us. Everything was delicious, prepared well and the view is simply amazing.
