Try to be relaxed onve you have negotiated your price sti back and enjoy your day out. If you can get a calm day ont he lake this is preferable of course. The monastaries are iteresting but three is enough. Look out for the hippos near the outlet of the Blue Nile - we say four playing in the water. There are also pelicans, fish eagles and lots of colourful birds. Take water and a snack.

I went to this lake atleast 3 times during my long stays in Ethopia.First time we have hired a motor boat and went around the lake and it almost taken 4 hours. It was an unforgettable ride. The water waves were almost like sea waves. We totally got drenched and enjoyed. We were taken to 3-4 during our ride which was interesting.Overall it was a very enjoyable that made me to visit twice.Must see in ethopia. This lake is in bahardar and is well connected to Addis Ababa by air.Road is also very good

The Lake Tana Monasteries are extraordinary places to visit and they are the calmest places to be and rich in religious attractions and as Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church believer, I felt great and blessed to be to some of those pilgrim and tourist attractions. I have met an excellent tourist guide to the attractions in Lake Tana whose name is Molla Tilahun (whose nick name is: SAKITAW, which means the one who smiles)...He is knowledgeable in every detail of history and story to be told on the lake Tana Monasteries and interior paintings of the medieval period attractions. You may contact him by e-mail: ermiast121@gmail.com and his mobile phone number is: +251932849665...I last went to those attractions in 2012. And I recommend everyone to visit the Lake Tana Attractions...

The boat ride can be pretty slow across the lake to the monastery. It's worth it though when you get there. See if you can find a boat that has 25 HP. Not 9.9

Excelent guide brought this visit to life. Steeped in history, amazing monataries and paintings.
Once you arrive on the islands be prepared for a bit of a hike to the monastaries, wear decent footwear too.
As with most tourist attractions, you will be greeted persistantly by traders selling their wares, but hey its the same everywhere!
Definately a place to visit and relax.
