Econo Lodge Downtown
Ranked #30 of 89 Hotels in Lake George
Reviewed August 14, 2009

Visited the hotel as part of a senior citizen bus trip. Staff at this family-owned motel was very accomodating -- delivering luggage to rooms and to the bus the following morning. Rooms were clean, comfortable and recently updated. Location is a few blocks from main area of Lake George. Overall, excellent value."

Drive into Lake George from the north off Exit 22 and the Econo Lodge Downtown is on the right at the stoplight. From there it is an easy walk to the shops, restaurants, and attractions that bring my family back to Lake George every year. As usual, the Econo Lodge Downtown staff was very cordial and helpful in planning daily activities in spite of the rain. They also knew the best restaurants. Our room was clean and so were both the indoor and outdoor pools. The continental breakfast which helped start our day even included hot chocolate for the little ones in our family. At the end of the day it was nice to return to comfortable beds for a peaceful night of sleep. Maybe it is the confidence that comes with staying at a family-run business, but whatever the reason, my family will continue to return to the Econo Lodge Downtown every summer. I recommend the same to you.

From the moment we arrived to the time we checked out, we truly enjoyed staying here. The whole staff made us feel like we were the only people there. The housekeeping staff was a blast, they not only kept our room spotless but sat and talk to us during there break. They even tried to get our tv remote to work when it wouldn't work. The pool areas were clean, even the parking lot. Even though it was full for the 4th, it was quiet. You didn't even hear all of the kids. The only down fall is parking but it's only a block or two to downtown.

We are definitely going back there again.

My family decided to stay at this pathetic little motel for 3 nights over the July 4th weekend. It took the front desk staff more than 20 minutes to check us in, they did not greet us, call our names nor even smile during the whole process, it was pretty much silent. Their attitude remained the same during the whole time we stayed there. I've never met any hotel personnel as unfriendly as they are! The room we got was quite clean, but the TV remote and some of the lights did not work, the shower did not provide water with constant temperature and the bathroom had an intense odor! The indoor pool was no larger than 10' x 15' and had a strong smell of chemical, the outdoor pool was small and located right next to Canada Street (Main Street of the Village), so there was no privacy at all. The continental breakfast was provided in a closet-sized room consisted of coffee/tea, make-your-own toasts, orange juice from concentrate, donuts. The worst continental breakfast I've ever had in terms of both quality and variety. Pay a little bit more and stay somewhere else!

We travelled to Lake George for an overnight stay recently. This holtel is in a perfect
location. Right accross the street from two restaurants, and a short walk to shopping.
Luckily, we stayed at this spotless hotel. We've stayed at other Lake George Hotels that
were NOT VERY CLEAN. Just outside our room is a large table and chairs, a perfect place to enjoy our pizza. The front desk staff (very nice) gave us ideas on what sites to
see and do during our brief visit. If we had more time, there were many attraction discount tickets available to purchase at the front desk. We will definately come back
to this Econo Lodge on our next visit to Lake George. The indoor pool was dellightful.

If this is the most poular hotel in Lake George, be afraid, be very afraid. Anyone who thinks this motel is a good value has lost it. If you love the sound of screaming motorcyles, cars with loud pipes and the stench of exhaust this is the place for you. Probably one of the reasons you can only open the room windows about 4 inches. The motel is dierctly on top of Route 9. If you crave a view of concrete and traffic this hotel offers every unit roadside (yes you can see the mountains in the distance), unlike most of the hotels whose rooms are removed from the roadway. The rooms smell totally stale; even a non-smoking room smells of smoke. They are probably as depressing as a motel room could be. Yes they are clean (except for the mold in the shower rails) and the cable works. The pool is immediately adjacent to the roadway (actualy right on top of it). The deck is about 24" wide; no place to hang out and no room for kids. Also, in mid-summer, as we speak most of the other motels have vacancies. Avoid at all costs.

I stayed at this hotel for the 4th of July weekend. My birthday is July 3rd. The woman who handled my reservation was the best. Her name is Ora. She was very kind and considerate and I enjoyed interacting with her. The first night we had a great time and slept well. The second night we were awake for hours and could not get anyone to answer the front desk phone to report the beating going on next door to us so we had to call the police. The only thing the hotel did for us was give us late check out from 11 to noon and during which time I took my lttle girl into the pool for 20 minutes before having to check out at noon and the manager came down and started yelling at people in the pool who had checked out already. I said I have late check out and she said yes you do but not pool time. Well I said after not sleeping half the night I beg to differ...we have not checked out yet and so with that she allowed us to stay. She was short fused and rude and in no way offered us a reprieve of any kind for the activity of our room neighbor. Had I been offered a refund for the night I didn't sleep and the pool incident had not occurred I would have returned but will not now.
