“Perfect Americade location”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

,We were there one night for" Americade" and the stay was great, central to everything for the rally, but very busy in parking lot, to be expected it was Headquarters!!! would stay again staff were very helpful. Main hotel rooms were fantastic clean, very roomy, modern, they had it all, including the price but that's what you pay for location, location, location. Breakfast should be included for that kind of money!!!

We stayed in the main hotel and upgraded to lake view. The room was spacious and very clean .You can't beat the location or the beautiful view. The staff was friendly and courteous. We parked our car for the weekend and was able to walk to it'all'.Even after checkout we were able to leave the car parked at the hotel while we went out on a brunch cruise on the lake. We would stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: The main building lake front are the best rooms, worth the extra $ .

We were in lake George for Americade and stayed here. The location is great right on lake and walking distance to a lot. The rooms smelled musty we had to go get frebreeze and the beds were uncomfortable.

Just finished Americade motorcycle rally with our headquarters at Fort William Henry. I cannot say enough about the staff. They are the best!!! Very helpful with anything we asked. Roberta and Mary helped organize the events with great efficiency. Nick, the concierge was always there to help with whatever we needed. The front desk crew were always very professional, special thanks to Lindsey! The grounds, rooms, restaurant...5 star!
Thanks to Fort William Henry for another very successful year!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking Lake George are spectacular!

First, I'd like to say that we travel extensively across the country so have had experience with everything from B&B's to larger corporate hotel chains over the years. We are also business owners and can look at things from both points of view. We mixed business and our 30th wedding anniversary into this trip.

Pros - The Fort William Henry Hotel is a fantastic location, central to the Lake George Village downtown and with great views of the Lake. The lobby is nicely decorated and a little gift shop has things you may need if forgotten. The room was very clean and nicely furnished, comfortable furniture, and appeared they made some updates. It is a large property with different levels of accommodation and we stayed in their premium main building in a king room with the lake view on the 2nd floor. You will get great lake views from the 2nd floor up. The housekeeping staff was very friendly and accommodating with our requests. We requested minimal housekeeping service during our 4-day stay and they made sure we had fresh towels and other amenities needed and were very pleasant as we passed them in the halls. The bedding has been upgraded from the photos seen on their website, mattress was comfortable, and more pillow selections than anyone could hope for. The room also had a hair dryer, fridge and microwave as well as a little one cup coffee maker and supplies. There were 2 nice sized cupboards for storing our suitcases and food items. The climate control worked pretty good and was easy to set. We had a nice breakfast at their in-house restaurant for a good value with excellent service. Our special event dinner was hosted very well and with good food and bar service. There is a huge beautiful outdoor pool (although cold enough that even young children jumped out quickly shivering).

Cons - Keep in mind that this hotel charges a premium luxury rate and does not have the most customer friendly policies. Ask them to explain everything to you in advance so that you understand as much as possible, especially unique payment and cancellation policy. While there we overheard some customer calls that backed this up. From our perspective as business owners, the customer is always king but the hotel policies appear to say "business first", period. There is a way to balance this but it doesn't appear as though it's high on their priorities or perhaps their staff needs additional training on customer service or both. There were a lot of maintenance issues... The elevators smell sour, even after housekeeping was seen wiping down the walls. We did not see any elevator certificates posted like we normally would. The programming of both room key cards required multiple trips to the front desk for not working on our room door or the laundry room. As mentioned above, it appeared as though some newer updates were done. Here are some examples of issues: Our closet door required 2 hands and a lot of trouble to open/close. We had to push a plastic corner stripping piece back up that was not secured properly and still had to wrestle the door open and closed each time, maybe a problem with the tracks. Only one of our two windows would open because part of the window trim was broken and the screen for the window that did open had large holes ripped in it. The hair dryer holder was not properly secured and flopped around like it would fall off. Wallpaper was poorly done in some areas where it was peeling off or where it had been patched over holes without repairing the wall and the patch was coming or like the installer didn't know how to do around the closet doorway. Caulking around the tub was not done correctly or at all in some places which would allow water into the wall. If I had hired a contractor who made these rookie mistakes I would have them fix it at their expense. Where the climate control fan output is located in conjunction with the bed, it blew cold air right on the person sleeping on that side and there was no adjustment to it. If we turned down the A/C then the room was too warm. Fortunately there were lots of layers of bedding. The little indoor pool/hot tub/game room was horribly hot so we didn't use it. While we were there, a wedding party moved into the hotel. Other guests like us were asked as they came through the lobby and parking lot to move their cars out of the main parking area and park on the grass around the side of the hotel to make room for these preferred guests. There has got to be a better way to handle this so that we are not made to feel like third-rate guests that don't matter. We parked outside the "coned" area but were still told we had to move. We were there for a special annual event too, one that brought the hotel a great deal of revenue. I noticed several event attendees leaving the property and asked them where they were staying and why. They had similar bad experiences in the past with this hotel and the way they were treated so were staying nearby at other hotels, of which there are oodles to choose from. Our "special group discount" didn't seem like such a good deal when I could find better rates online for the same time period.

Our recommendations? Shop around and ask lots of questions. Ask yourself what is really important to you that you can't live without. You will most likely be able to find it elsewhere at a better price where you will be treated like a king. If you decide to stay here, make sure you are really getting their best rate offered. Don't be afraid to take issues to management, but don't expect to get satisfaction from employees. We reported a problem with an ice machine when we first arrived and it still had not been addressed when we left. It's a lovely property and venue but make sure you cover your bases or you may be disappointed. Don't get a room near the elevators because noisy party people will keep you up all night as they come and go.

Room Tip: Any room on the 2nd floor or above will give you a nice view - either lakefront or mountain side. Av...

We are sorry that we did not meet your expectations. The front desk is trained to take every step possible to make your Fort William Henry experience a positive, memorable one. It sounds like we fell short. We spend a great deal of time training our staff on phone etiquette, reservations and hospitality. We take each of these comments seriously and will be meeting with the various departments regarding each and every one of them.
In regards to the parking issue, ESTRA was supposed to secure a separate parking area for the wedding guests, the evening before their arrival, to avoid the very situation that occurred. We were told our regular guests would in no way be inconvenienced. Obviously this did not come to fruition.
It was a pleasure having you as our guest. We hope to see you again next time you are in the Lake George region. If we can be of assistance in the future, don't hesitate to contact us at 1800-234-0267. Again, thank you for this useful feedback!

We stayed here for the lake George half marathon on April 20, 2013. We had a room in the Premium East building, that was very nice. The room had a big bathroom, and plenty of space in it.The indoor pool and hot tub were very nice. However we also used the game room that had a lot of broken games. At breakfast there are two rooms to eat in. One room you order your food in. (this room only had like 6 tables in it) The second room had a breakfast buffet that was 13 dollars PER PERSON! When we came to breakfast, the first room was full, and there was a big wait... Of course we did not feel like paying for the buffet, so we ate somewhere else in Lake George. The hotel was okay for a night

Room Tip: If you eat breakfast here, be prepared to spend a lot of money!
