This was my first visit to this new restaurant, and I was pleasantly surprised with the menu selections, I had veal shanks that were well cooked to fall off the bone tenderness.

“Great burger, nice option of small or large portions”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2012

After a day at the Great Escape, my girlfriend and I came here on a recommendation from a local. I saw their menu online and was happy to see an angus burger and small plates options. We didn't want to spend a lot since we felt we got gouged at the Log Jam the previous night.

It's no wonder this place is number one in Lake George. Inspired food, attention to detail, and staff that all seem energized and happy to be there. Good to see that they have local beer on draft and an upscale something-for-everyone approach. You can spend a little or a lot, eat a little or a lot, and leave with the feeling of value. The burger was great, as we're it sides. The kitchen is open to view the busy chefs expediting your meal. I would come back often if I didn't live 2 hours south. Keep up the good work!! We'll be back.

“High prices, small portions”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2012

This used to be our favorite restaurant, but not any more. My wife treated me to dinner for Father's day and we anticipated a great experience. A new seasonal menu was presented and we placed our orders. Sadly, after 2 starters, a small plate entree, a full plate entree, and 3 glasses of house wine , we left very disappointed and still hungry. Prices are quite hefty for the small portions given. While the food is very good, the overall value just isn't there when you factor in the prices. In fact, my full plate entree was almost the same size as my wife's small plate entree, but at twice the price. We'll spend our money elsewhere in the future.

“Chef is trying, but it's average and overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2012

As locals, we've eaten here for years because we've been rooting for Bistro LeRoux to succeed. The cozy atmosphere is really nice, especially in winter, and the service is always excellent. Nevertheless, after years of giving the place a try, and hoping the chef would nail it, we've concluded the food is consistently a bit "off" and way overpriced for portion size. Sorry, guys!

We can tell the chef is trying really hard, but the entrees just don't come together as creatively or harmoniously as they should. And it seems as if there is a protocol at work here--especially with the different variations of mashed potatoes as sides to many of the entree options, for example. Same mashed potato with a different ingredient (horseradish, ham, corn) to set it apart. To the chef's credit, the ahi tuna appetizer has never disappointed, and some of the desserts are consistently excellent.

Another big issue with Bistro LeRoux is that the full-size portions are pretty small for the price. We don't mind paying $25 for an entree, but for what you are actually served, it really should be less.

For the same or similar type of cuisine, amount of money, and fairer portion/price ratios, you're really better off at Bistro Tallulah in Glens Falls, the Ridge Terrace (close by), the Inn at Erlowest in Lake George or even the Montcalm if you're in the mood for something a bit more old-school.
