Hike in from the Fort Ticonderoga side trail head then down to Lake George access and back again. Nice views along the way.

“Amazing View, Challenging but fun trail”
Reviewed August 11, 2011

My husband and I did this trail with other family members who are experienced hikers. They rated this as a "moderate in difficulty" trail. It is not for small children or older adults afraid of turning an ankle. It is a beautiful hike throuh the forests of Black Mountain and rewards hikers with an amazing view of Lake George and surrounding peaks of nearby mountains, making it well worth the trek. There are a lot of steep, rocky paths the last 3rd of the trek up the mountain. It is an excellent workout and a hike you need to expend moderate effort in at, but in a very satisfying way. Gi\ve yourself 3-4 hours for this hike.

“Black Mountain Loop -- Trek near Lake George”
Reviewed November 30, 2007

The Black Mountain Loop trek near Lake George in the eastern Adirondack region is a perfect day trek. The following are the highlights:

-- difficulty level: moderate
-- very beautiful views along the way and at the top
-- passes by a few (2-3) lovely lakes
-- trail can be a little tricky to follow at times (so ensure you read additional details before going on the trek -- you need to follow different colored trail markers at each stage -- if you go counter-clockwise: red to yellow to blue and back to red)
-- cheap (but comfortable) accommodation is available at and around Glens Falls (around 20 minutes from the trail head)
