Description: The Lake George Steamboat Company was incorporated in 1817 to operate steamboats on Lake George, New York. It is the oldest company in the Lake George region. The Lake George Steamboat Company currently operates three boats: The Minne-Ha-Ha, the Mohican II, which has been in continuous service for over 100 years and is the oldest passenger vessel in the United States, and the Lac Du Saint Sacrement, the largest and most luxurious of the three. You can choose from hour long cruises to a full length trip of the lake. Join us for lunch or dinner cruises, fireworks cruises, moonlight with entertainment cruises or simple sightseeing cruises.

The smell of breakfast waiting on the boat tantalizes you as you wait in line to board the Mohican. Some folks went below to enjoy a leisurely breakfast while enjoying the sights through large windows and listening to narration by the captain. Others stayed on deck to enjoy the morning air. There was plentiful seating the day we rode the boat, leaving people room to walk about and take pictures as the captain pointed out an eagle, an eagle's nest and many other things of interest as we made our way up the lake. The snack bar has lunch foods and snacks available for purchase. This is nice, especially due to the length of this particular cruise. It was a relaxing, enjoyable way to spend a day. I would recommend this specific tour to adults or older children due to the length of the cruise. However, this organization offers many other tours, of differing lengths, that families with younger children would enjoy. One of their boats is a paddle wheeler with a calliope aboard, how fun!

We took the Discovery cruise, which is described as four and a half hours long, but actually took a full five hours. The Mohican was used for this, and the 100+ year old vessel was in good shape and appeared to be well maintained.

Lake George is truly beautiful, and we enjoyed the cruise. In addition to the standard items of interest pointed out by the crew, we saw two bald eagles.

Food is available, and though it wasn't anything special, the items we got were fine for the situation. The website says that no outside food is allowed although I don't think there was any enforcement of this restriction.

In retrospect, I think we might have been satisfied with one of the shorter cruises. Five hours on the boat turned out to be a little more than enough for us. This is not a criticism of the crew or boat or lake or anything; we just got fidgety after 3-4 hours. So I suggest that you consider carefully if you really want the long Discovery cruise.

Tip for handicapped guests: There is limited handicapped parking right next to the ticket office. You can also park across the street, and it's not that far. But neither is free.

Taco Tuesday was a fun night. Decent taco bar that included entertainment. They had a problem with the A/C so that dining area was sweltering! Once we finished eating we went on the upper deck where they had speakers so we could still here the entertainment.

The firework cruise was very enjoyable. We went out on the Lac du Saint Sacrament. It was positioned right in front of the firework barge in the middle of the lake. Be sure to sit on the right side of the ship for the best viewing (when docked
go to the opposite side of where you load).
The only suggestion I would have is to start the cruise before it gets dark so the passengers have a chance to see the lake and the fireworks on the return trip to port.
