“Staff is nice. Hotel needs some major renovation”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

We stay one night with two rounds golf. What is the saying “You get what you pay for…” The staff is nice overall. You could tell if the owner of the hotel put some money back into the place, it would have a wonderful chance to be a nice place to go year after year. The hotel is stuck back in time. The carpets and rooms are outdated. The window had some gray color film on the outside; it looks like it had not been cleaned for years. There were bugs in between the window and in the bathroom light fixture. The indoor pool was dirty and no towels available. The golf course has potential, but the staff at the club house did not tell us that there were three temporally greens. The course was not in great playing condition; the tee boxes had no grass and around greens area were soggy and muddy. The hotel has a niche for certain groups. The view of the mountain was beautiful.

This hotel is located in one of the most scenic settings I've ever visited. Every where I looked was a postcard picture. The hotel is rather large, with several ballrooms and meeting rooms located off the lobby. This hotel must have been something else back in the heyday of the Catskills. However; now it could use a little work. If they would clean up the dead bugs in the overhead lights and paint a little the place would be all right. They need to get new bedspreads and pillows and give guests toilet paper and tissues that you can't read a book through.
The grounds are beautiful. With a golf course, tennins courts, a pool, playground and walking paths. The staff are very friendly and make you feel at home, but not very knowledgeable, I'm assuming that is because they're still being trained for the new season. The only complaint I had was that the night of memorial day the hotel restaurant was closed. The hotel is in a relatively isolated area with only a pizzeria nearby. The front desk failed to give me a wake-up call one morning, which is a cardinal sin in my book that through my business trip off kilter one day. After talking to Jodie at the front desk I was assured that it wouldn't happen again and was given my wake-up call followed by another call personally from Jodie to make sure.
All of that being said I will be staying at the HVS again. Having to visit the area a couple times a year on business I can say that this is the best hotel/motel at the best price. There are NO decent places in New Paltz and it is well worth the breath taking drive.

An old "Catskill" hotel, renovated a few years ago and very well maintained. It has all the usual emenities you expect. The very cooperative staff is what makes it stand out. I have been there several times and am always happy.

Once again, we held our folk music weekend at the Hudson Valley resort. We keep returning for many reasons: the setting is lovely (some of our members go hiking); the place is clean and comfortable; the staff are endlessly friendly and helpful; the food is excellent. Several of us took advantage of the spa and indoor pool - massages, hot tub, etc.

We will be back in November.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the golf course (and some smashing scenery beyond)

We went here for Mother's Day and when we drove up i wondered if it was even open beause it looked so dark. There was a Persian gathering there and i guess because of their beliefs the elevator banks were not running during certain times, reatuarant was closed, bars were closed and it was hot in there, it just would have been nice if they told us this before we booked it. Then we went to the Spa, someone called in sick and they had someone from gift shop running it, who had no idea what she was doing - did not even know were robes were. We waited at front desk for like 5 min before going to looking for someone. Facial was great and so was the massage, but not a very relaxing experience since it was such a disaster getting ready (for 5pm appt - i was ready by 5:20). there was no one in the hotel, but somehow there were no suites availalbe, which i find hard to believe (club was leaving the night we got there). since restaurants were closed we had to find a place to eat, and forget getting help at the front desk cause it was a ghost town down there. the next morning i had another treatment scheduled at the spa. Appt was for 10am and apparently the spa opens at 9am. Well when i went down at 10 all light were off and no one arrived to open the doors until about 10:20. she came out and said that no one let her know there was an appointment, but she can take me at 10:30. At that point i was done with the place. i think this resort and "spa" has a lot of work to do. in my opinion it looked like the employees knew they would soon be going out of business and just did not give a crap. windows in our room were even dirty to the point where you could hardly see outside. overall experience was not great and i would not be rushing back!

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We work hard to provide each guest with an exceptional experience, and I deeply regret that we failed to exceed your expectations.

We do try to accommodate the special needs of religious groups visiting our resort, and apologize if the automatic operation of our elevators when in Shabbat mode presented you with an inconvenience.

While your room was booked at a deeply discounted rate, the reservationist should have been more clear with you about what to expect. We will use your experience as an opportunity to improve our training program, and do not expect that this will be an issue in the future.

Of course, we’re thrilled that you enjoyed the facial and massage services you received in the spa, but the confusion with our scheduling is inexcusable. Please accept our apologies. I will be meeting with our spa manager to determine how your stay could have been handled differently.

We are a service driven resort, and deeply regret that that we failed to live up to our own standard of excellence. Thank you once again for providing us with this opportunity to improve.

I was so impressed during my weekend stay at the hotel. From the minute we walked in the door, the courtesy of the staff was exceptional. While attending for the weekend for a large group function, the hotel had no problem managing the large crowd. Our buffet meals were delicious as well as our midnight ice creams and hoagies. The large lobby was inviting and comfortable for a gathering spot, but with the variety of other rooms available for sociallizing , such as the theatre room, the lounge, and separate smoke room there was always some place different to sit and be with friends. The rooms were clean and well stocked, and when i called for a problem with the tv, there was someone there within 10 minutes to fix it. Was busy dancing all weekend, and didnt have time for the pool and spa, but the spa looked wonderful. Was impressed how the lobby and social rooms were turned into dance floors. Because of the food, service, atmosphere and staff, i described the hotel as " it was like being on a cruise that wasnt on the water.".
Looking forward to the next country weekend in October.

The lobby was huge, the facilities were extensive and the location was phenominal while visiting family in Accord, NY. It certainly is not posh, but the room was very nice, clean and comfortable and we enjoyed our stay here. If we didn't have a family luncheon to attend, we would have tried the live jazz brunch which looked wonderful. Will definitely return in the summer and try their outdoor facilities and the thousands of surrounding acres for hiking in the immediate area.
