Can't believe that no Tripadvisors have so far reviewed this place, it's been around for years and is excellent and very popular, going by the packed crowd on a recent Thursday evening . My wife and I visit or pass through Buffalo several times a year and have accumulated a long list of our favourite local restaurants, far more than we ever get to actually visit on a regular basis, so we are always reluctant to add yet another. But we have often passed Marotto's and been tempted to go in. It has the cutest little outdoor clam shack (that's only open in the summer months, of course, this is frigid Buffalo, remember) but the inside is warm and inviting too, with a small bar area that attracts many enthusiastic, afterwork locals who drop by for fresh-shucked clams and oysters and such.
We had heard that the owner/chef, Mark Marotto, is a rather eccentric, gregarious chap who enjoys serenading his guests with harmonica solos but were still quite unprepared for all the backslapping and hugging Italian/Buffalo style that this truly thoughtful, caring host lavishes on even new customers. All the servers seemed to be similarly warm and enthusiastic. You might begin to wonder just who is taking care of things back in the kitchen but everything came out excellent, the only letdown of the entire meal being my wife's dessert of "strawberry shortcake", which might best be stricken from the menu. I'm sure that there were probably much better choices. We will add Marotto's to our Buffalo must-visit list.
