My boyfriend and I live in Au Sable Forks, and the Clover Mead Cafe is our favorite breakfast spot by far. The menu boasts locally grown and produced ingredients - most from the multitude of farms along Mace Chasm Road. The food is elevated comfort food that will satisfy every pit-stop traveler and local alike. The baked goods are perfectly sweet - cinnamon buns, pound cake, and cookies are the cafe's specialty. We usually get bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches on locally-made bagels, but the weekly specials like french toast poundcake and potato and sage gratin are also amazing and totally worth a menu detour. Marla, the chef, is very accommodating. She makes you feel like an old friend.
You can sit at the counter or eat at the picnic tables outside - we like to bring friends for a late Sunday breakfast. The cafe is also a farm store, so we like to stock up on yogurt and cheese from North Country Creamery, veggies from Fledging Crow, and other dry goods from local producers.
After your visit to the cafe and store, be sure to stop by the butcher shop at Mace Chasm Farm and the Ausable Brewing Company for a beer!
