Just returned from a memorable stay in the ausable inn in keene valley ny. Although the establishment is better known for its great food (courtesy of ONE cook) we slept there as well for three nights. A verrry interesting experience: totally un frou frou , shared baths, and an authentic antique vibe ( only one lamp that worked, two "personal sized" fans for the three of us, dusty, above the restaurant/saloon). But we'd return there again in a heartbeat: great hiking trails abound, including some of the High Peaks of the Central Adirondacks; interesting mix of locals , hikers , and granolas;; superb food; friendly staff. More than worth the $$.
