“Peaceful and serene”

It's a pretty resort lcated on a secluded beach. Very pretty, peaceful and tranquil. The food is great ( apart gtom breakfast which is rather bare). The beach bungalows oversee the ocean; you can hear the sound of waves from your room (and the sea gulls too!) which was one of the high
Iights of my visit.

There's also a mini bar/relaxation spot in the middle of a lake ( in a sperate section of the resort). Lots of activities too such ss quad biking, mini-golf, lawn tennis courts etc.

Only issue I have with the management is their failure to upgrade the cable; the only English speaking channel is CNN! I'm a movie lover so I was a bit disappointed but take your DVD player or lap top with you and you'll be fine.

I wholeheartedly recommend this resort. It's a lovely gate away spot from nearby Lagos. The rates are very decent as well!

Got to Ouidah on the Last day in October, early enough for my Fiancé's b'day (1st of Nov) which marked the happiest day of my life as amidst all the fun, excitement and feel of this amazing get-away resort overseeing a really clean beach, I was able to get on my knees to ask her to marry me after Presenting to her a nicely decorated cake by Chef Anani and an Engagement ring I concealed so nicely to prevent her from having the slightest idea of my plans and she said YES!.
Service was above average considering the fact that I don't quite understand French. John and especially Nasis were very helpful, treated me like a brother and was always making sure we had all we wanted.
A walk on the beach and around the nice resort, to the middle of the lake and back plus swimming in a very crystal clear pool and nice (but expensive) meals made our stay an overall amazing trip.
Would love to visit again soon, but this time with a few friends and family to have a different feel from the previous.
The only thing I noticed is the fact that some of the staff tend to focus their attention and full service to white-skinned folks and made it glaring but I'm sure they need some orientation to treat everyone the same and the fact that there's no universal socket or plug in the rooms to charge Laptop or phones.

We bounced along for what seemed forever on a rutted dirt road, way out of town (forget walking in) to finally arrive at La Casa del Papa. It it on a secluded beach, neighboring a small fishing village (interesting to watch the fisherman/families haul lines (or nets?) out of the ocean.)
Bungalow interiors were not memorable. They were clean and the AC worked. They were just fine, but nothing special. Each bungalow has a cute little porch w/chairs facing the ocean.
Dining was outside, under cover but open air. Oceanside is great (except for evil mosquitos). The pizza was the best we had in W Africa, with a thin, crisp crust. Other food was good, but again, not memorable. We enjoyed the pool: clean, large, just warm enough. WiFi should have been available, but we were told it didn't work.

my husband and i visited Casa in October 2013.

Ups
It is definitely one of the most beautiful places in Benin. The rooms were nice, staff really friendly,
Watching the sun rise was incredible. Sea view was a huge plus. The Lobster dish was fantastic!! Two large swimming pools and a little pool for children. Kayaking in the lagoon. Quad bikes. Excellent bar service. the beach front bungalows were definitely the best. you could sit on the chairs on your balcony and listen to the waves of the sea. The rooms were quite clean, a bit small but very nice. the showers (no tubs) and toilets were clean too.

Downs
The breakfast was bare: no eggs, sausages, bacon, etc.
Its a bit noisy during the weekends because it becomes a 'family' resort. lots of families with loud little children. the pools are overcrowded and noisy too.
Food was nothing to write home about.
TV had only french channels (however usb ports available if you have movies on a usb stick)
little bars of soap and funny looking shampoo, best to take your toiletries with you: shampoo, toothpaste, bath gel, etc. hair dryer too.

all in all, a great experience

Room Tip: Sea View Far from the restaurant: quieter

My fiance and I visited Casa del Papa inNovember 2011 to get away from the madness of Lagos City in Nigeria (sorry I chose September 2012 because I could not get the option for the correct date I travelled...but I must share this review with you). It is a lovely resort with a beach side and a lagoon side.

Pros

1. If you ate in West Africa and you want a place to relax that will not cost you an arm and a leg, then this is the place for you. You are sure to have a restful time as there are few toursits attractions so you do not have to run around trying to meet up with scheduled excursions.

2. There are so many leisure activities for couples, friends and family. These include kayaking, cycling, speed boat rides, bar and night club, sports (lawn and table tennis, basketball, beach volley) and so on.

3. A choice of lagoon view or ocean view are available to visitors. The water activities take place in the lagoon area which is literarily just a stone's throw from your door. The ocean is also a stone's throw from your door is you have an ocean-facing room. There are also adjoining rooms for family travellers.

4. The hotel is accessible by road or air. If you are travelliing from Lagos, you are better off going by road.

5. There is plenty of parking space so you can come in your own car - just make sure you have the right permits and documents to enter The Republlic of Benin and make sure you know the route to Ouidah.

Cons

1. For food, they do not have so much on offer. Nigeria has thousands of recipes so we were quite bored with their menu. But we forgave them cos they made up in so many other areas.

2. The resort is a basic one so do not expect glamour. Also, the staff speak their local dialect and French...we were lucky to identify a staff who spoke Yoruba language of Nigeria but English was just impossible except for the reception staff.

3. Not many tourist attractions - so if you are going there as a tourist, you might be a little disappointed. Just go and relax.

Altogether, we enjoyed our stay - we were there for 3 nights and two days...and we didn't want to leave for home. It is a lovely place for couples and families. I also think it will be a great place for team bonding with colleagues.

Hope this helps you make your decision.

Room Tip: Lagoon-facing rooms are quieter and come with shared gazebos; but if you want a verandah, ask for t...

First the good: the location is fantastic on its own stretch of beautiful beach. The bungalows on the beach front are comfortable, the showers worked well and they were clean. I'm afraid the rest of the resort was a major disappointment. Service was unfriendly, food was some of the worst we had in Benin. It also had a very strange atmosphere. It is a very big resport by African standards but there was no one there. It had three deserted bars and an old mini-golf course and rundown tennis court. It felt a little bit like the film The Shining. If you bring the right attitude you can enjoy the rooms and the location and have a great time. Ouidah is a fascinating place.

Errrmm... I would say that this is the best hotel in Benin (ok, maybe there is something posh Cotonou, I don't know), but I'd say that it's the best compared to other Benin places and there is not much choice of this type of accommodation in Benin anyway, so it is really difficult to determine its relative value as there are no competitors.
If you forget the enormous price of £80-100/night this is very very decent place to stay: you get your own small bungalow right on the beach, with running hot water and a toilet, you get a restaurant with the real food and there are two clean swimming pools, so it is not bad at all - again, by West African standards :).
