“Heaven on Earth”

My now-husband and I got married at Jedediah Hawkins Inn one year ago and returned for our one-year anniversary In Nov. 2008. We stayed in the Belvedere Suite -- an absolutely gorgeous oasis from the stress of daily living. Upon arrival, we were enveloped in warmth both from the ambience of the Inn and the refined enthusiasm of the staff, who cannot do enough to make your stay carefree.

Once checked in, we were brought to the suite and shown all the amenities -- even ones that you don't immediately realize, such as the radiant tile floor in the bathroom, the surround sound up in the widow's walk, where my husband and I enjoyed a pot of coffee one lazy morning after our delectable breakfast.

We ate at Jedediah's one night during our stay, but also ventured out to the surrounding towns where there are many restaurants to try. The staff will make reservations for you whereever you like.

But most of all, we thoroughly enjoyed the Inn's features. We relaxed in all three levels of the suite, the Captain's cellar and the front parlor. And whatever we chose to do, the staff made sure our every need was tended to.

The Inn is a haven for us and, if they don't allow us to move in permanently, we plan to make it our home away from home for decades to come.

my wife and i wanted a r&r weekend getaway. we found it at jedediah. we stayed in the rose room -- one of the exquisitely individually decorated rooms at the inn. all rooms have a flat screen tv, gasfireplace, etc. the staff was extremely accomadatingthroughout the stay. They made all ancillary arrangements including a car service for a vineyard tour -- amazing. dinner at the hotel was top shelf. breakfast (included) was extremely satisfying. the staff loaned us bicycles on sunday morning for an enjoyable bike ride. overall great getaway, although a little pricey.

  • Liked — staff, food and accomadations
  • Disliked — small inn

My wife and I spent three nights/days at the Inn looking for some desperately needed R&R. The property is wonderful, the story of the rehab is fascinating and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is excellent and the included breakfast was perfect. The gazebo is a treat.

Now the bad...we stayed in the Cocoa room (also called the Marilyn Monroe room). The room, as are all the rooms, is decorated very nicely. For us, the mattress was too saggy in the middle. Most of the rooms are on the second floor and are situated above the lobby/entrance to the inn or above the restuarant and bar areas. Since the Inn's restaurant is open to the public it is busy during lunch/brunch and dinner hours. Of course all the noise filters up to the rooms were it is heard pretty much all day and well into the night. It was difficult to get to sleep until the bar shuts down and the staff leaves ... around 1A.M. Then it all starts again early in the morning with the noise of the hostess's high heels clacking back and forth on those beautiful wooden floors as she rushes back and forth from the breakfast room to the kitchen! Our room was nearest to the kitchen so additional we were treated with the constant low motor noise of the kitchen's roof exhaust fan. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Inn however for me it was ruined by the noise. Im not sure if I would reccomend an overnight stay at the Inn.

  • Liked — execellent food; wonderful rehab of a historic Inn
  • Disliked — noisy room

My husband and I stayed at the inn for a birthday getaway in February. We were looking for something close to NYC, where we could curl up and relax in front of the fire for a couple of days. Jedediah Hawkins was the perfect choice. We took the Hampton Jitney out from the city, which made it really stressfree. (The Jitney stop is two blocks or so from the inn.) Because it was late and raining when we arrived, one of the inn staff members picked us up at the stop. This was just the start of the attentive service we received all weekend long. The inn's interiors are gorgeously decorated. We stayed in the Sage Room, which had a fireplace and flat-screen tv, a perfect mix of charm and modernity. There is a cozy wine cellar where we had a glass of wine and cheese plate on our first night. The breakfast and dining rooms were also lovely. The food was divine, with a plentiful continental spread as well as hot entree selection for breakfast, and an elegant menu in the evenings at the Inn's restaurant. There is a beach nearby (walkable), as well as the North Fork vineyards (not far by car). There isn't too much happening in Jamesport itself, but nearby towns have more going on from what I have read. It being wintertime, we were content to stay indoors and be pampered at this beautiful inn.

My partner and I stayed in the Belvedere suite in June of 2007 for two nights. This review may be a little late but I still wanted to pos tit.

This is probably one of the most beautiful rooms I have ever stayed in. The room itself is ENORMOUS, with a living room, working fireplace in the bedroom and an extremely comfortable bed.

The Staff at the INN were superb. We were getting married that weekend and they provided us with complimentary champagne and brought a cheese plate to our room one night.

We spent about 600 a night for the room and it was worth every penny. If you can swing it and are looking for a romantic get away I highly suggest this location.

My only complaint is that they forgot to tell us that they leave the property at night. When you check in they are supposed to show you how to enter the building after hours - so for us one night we had to throw rocks at another guests window to actually get in. In the end it made for a great story and they gave us a discount on the room!

The renovation is beautiful but avoid the Indigo Room, which is incredibly noisy and unpleasant. The restaurant tries a bit too hard for what it delivers.
