Prospect Cemetery was established in the 1660s and operated until the last burials took place in the late 1970s. It is a 4-acre piece of land now completely surrounded by the campus of York College, one of the units of the City University of New York. It is now managed by the Prospect Cemetery Association, and is only open sporadically. The association has undertaken a major refurbishment of the cemetery, clearing the overgrowth and planting new grass. Work is continuing in conjunction with architectural firms, assistance from Green-Wood personnel and volunteers to restore, conserve and reinstall many of the historic stones. Names famous to the borough may be found in its residents: Van Wyck, Baisley, Van Sicklen, Sutphin, etc. and its restored Chapel of the Sisters is sometimes used as a concert venue. There is no public phone number for the site, so for more information contact: CateL@aol.com. The cemetery web site is: http://www.prospectcemeteryassociation.org/
