“Simply disgusting”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

I chose this hotel because I needed to spend a night at a hotel near to the airport as I needed to pick my mom the morning after, then go into town.

The area is horrible. The people at the hotel are not nice. They claim to have a shuttle and the two times I tried to use, it was late or not available. Ended up taking a taxi. The driver told me there are always problems with the hotel's shuttle.

They also claim to offer breakfast, but food looks so disgusting that I didn't dare to eat anything.

It is seriously a place you don't want to be in. It isn't even that cheap, so look for something else which is at a better area and has better facilities.

I must accept the only good thing in this hotel is the fitness room, which is quite OK considering the rest of the hotel.

The Sleep Inn is great for layovers given its location and free shuttle service to and from JFK.

The front desk staff were the hotel's best asset :) Always friendly and quite helpful. We showed up for our return shuttle to JFK only to find that their shuttle had been sent to the shop to fix a flat tire; however, they were quick to remedy the situation by calling a cab and footing the bill for us to be taken to the airport. Amazing :)

Our room was quite small and during our particular stay other guests and traffic noise were quite loud. But the room as moderately clean and comfortable.

I wish I could offer a review of the breakfast. At checkin we were told that breakfast hours were from 7am-10am, but when we went down at 9:00am almost everything was either gone or put away. The precious few items left were being quickly whisked away by a less than happy staff member. We were treated as if we were late and completely out of luck. We watched the little fridge get restocked with yogurt and promptly locked before our eyes. I escaped with only an apple and a stale muffin. My friend was able to snag a bagel and even one pack of cream cheese before the fridge was locked. Bizarre. I have never been to any hotel where breakfast was shut down early and in such an odd manner. Especially not with guests present and obviously looking for food.

The hotel is 30+min (a $60+ cab ride) from NYC. Nearby restaurants are mostly fast food/take-out. However, if you are willing to walk or take a cab a few miles you will find excellent Jamaican cuisine at The Door Restaurant. The neighborhood seems a little rough around the edges. I had no problem walking during the day, but we took a cab back to the hotel when night fell.

Room Tip: Only use for layovers and try to get a room that doesn't face the street if traffic noise bother...

We've been staying in several hotels in New York in the last few months but this hotel is one of my favourite and highly recommended. The staff are charming and very friendly and provided us all the information we needed from train schedule to places to visit and restaurants if we don't want to go out at night, facilities is great with free Wi-Fi , buffet breakfast (thank you ladies' for the great service every morning  ) - huge selection of pastries, cereal, sausage, yoghurt, eggs, bread, juice, coffee, fruits, too many to mention. If you are up to the challenge to lose some weights, the gym is just right next to the breakfast room. Our room is spacious enough to move around, accommodated our big luggage, the bed is bigger than what we expected for a double (more of a Queen size) very comfortable, bathroom is very clean, modern and nice; in the room, we have: wardrobe, ironing board/iron, table and chair, big LCD T.V., coffee maker, Fridge and AC, all what you need is in the room.
There is a lift (you would not find this often in most hotels in London around Paddington and Earls Court), vending machines in every floor, parking space available in front of the building and free transport every hour to and from the train station up to 1:00 p.m. and then after 3:00 p.m. We intend to stay only for a few days when we made our bookings intending to move to another hotel in case we did not like the facilities but guess what, we ended staying longer than expected until we left for our trip to Europe.

We chose this place because we had to catch a very early flight at JFK. Indeed it is very close, no more than 10 min drive. However parking is very limited- only 10 spaces and if you arrive late, you have to park in the streets behind the hotel - which were very quiet at night.

Room was small - ok for a one night stay.

We were changing planes at JFK and had our flight cancelled because of weather. I had never been to NY and wasn't sure where to stay. Found the hotel online and booked it for $99.00. We were picked up by the shuttle at Federal Circle. The hotel is not located in the best area but I did feel safe. The rooms are small but nicely decorated. Bathroom was also small but clean. The only downside was the noise. Our room was situated in the front of the hotel and there was lots of traffic noise and you could here planes. We were told shuttle runs every half hour and the shuttle was operating at 4:30 am to get us back to the airport. I would recommend the hotel for just an overnight stay.

When you land at night and can't get out of JFK until the next day- the Sleep Inn on Rockaway (10 min from airport) is exactly what you need; nothing fancy, but you get: prompt complimentary shuttle service from the Air Train (Federal Circle) or terminal; big comfy bed; big flat screen TV; small but clean bathroom (but shower has no place to put the soap) ; decent buffet breakfast. (This hotel is astonishingly clean- maybe because it is only four months old.)

We stayed at this Hotel on Feb 15th - 19th/2013. The service was very good. The room was clean and the king size bed was very comfortable. We also enjoyed the breakfast,
Parking is limited, be prepared to park on the street.
I would certainly stay here again..

Room Tip: Choose room towards the back to avoid street noise.
