I found the exceptional concern and understanding of the front desk person as they coordinated my locating the hotel very impressive. The room on the third floor i stayed in was also very clean. I was even encouraged to use the internet. The shuttle service was also very friendly. Good room rates too,,
The room itself was good. It was a nice size and very clean! So was the bathroom. Maybe I should have chosen a room kn a higher floor because we were disturbed all night when people checked in late. We almost didn't sleep all night because you could hear every word.
The hotel offers a shuttle from Federal Circle and back to the airport. The shuttle is ok but the guy driving is very unfriendly. They told if I could make it to Federal Circle and call by 10:45pm he would come and pick us up. After I called at 10:43 or so he told me I was lucky he was still there and hadn't left already. And that was after I waited 15 minutes for him to drive me to the airport to pick up my brother!!!
The elevator to the "first" floor where you can take the elevator to the rest of the floors is a flight down which is no fun with heavy bags. The elevator seems to have been broken a while. The hallways are ugly. The first non-smoking room smelled like someone had smoked a carton in there. They were quick to move us to a better smelling room. The rooms was clean. The mattress a bit too soft. It was fine for a night, for the price but I suspect there are better choices.
Having to take suitcases down a flight of stairs to get to the lift, not highly recommended.
Furniture outdated and broken.
Reading lights (both) not working.
Door lock not working properly.
The driver was a pain. FYI, you need to take an AirTrain to Federal Circle(which is free) and once there, there's a free phone for you to use. HJ was 68. I'm not sure if the phone was made to the driver or the hotel but the person who picked up the phone had a very strong accent so it was difficult to understand. I said that I was at Federal Circle and needed a shuttle. I'm pretty sure the guy who picked up the phone said that they would send a shuttle to pick me up. I read reviews from here prior to my trip and people said that they waited about 20 minutes. So I sat down inside for a bit(around 5 mins at the most) because it was raining very hard outside. I then decided to go out anyway. Once I got out, I saw some shuttles around but not HJ. About 3 mins later, one guy came up and said Howard Johnson so I followed him. Once I got in the shuttle, he shouted at me asking why it took me so long to come out. How was I supposed to know I had to come out right away when I was told that a shuttle will be on its way? If it was already there then he should have mentioned that it was there. He kept shouting at me for a while and at first I responded a bit but then I realized he was just a mad man and I didn't wanna argue with him anymore. The next day on the way back, I signed up for 10.45am. The driver came around that time and just sat near the reception for no reason for a while and then walked somewhere and came to the shuttle about 10-15 mins late. He was a nightmare to deal with and he even had guts to ask for tips. Some sheets smell pretty bad, they seriously need to be put in the sun. The air-con was loud but probably not too bad to listen to comparing to other sounds coming from other rooms that you can easily hear. WIFI worked well throughout the hotel. Other staff were quite nice.
