“Not exactly in New York - but close enough & the price is right”
Reviewed December 25, 2012

First leg of our 40th wedding anniversary tour - never been to USA - never to New York[sic].

Decided -due to budget requirements & crazy mid town hotel prices - to use this facitlty. Very similar to Travelodge/Premier Inn UK - in room facilities [ perphaps a little smaller but had fridge, microwave & fridge + allowinf takeaways being ordered in] - but with really nice buffet breakfast provided as part of the deal. Went via Booking.com with no problems & good prices.

Very clean & central to 2 Metro connections into city - with one metro station you can walk [ within 10/15 minutes] or use their is a "courtesy bus" who will take you & bring you back within certain time frames - but pretty flexible. Really, really nice staff !!

Area is a bit industrial - but no safety issues and the travel in by metro is about 40 minutes and the cost is just over US2$ a person per trip - although if like us you are staying for a few days - get a metro card for discounted travel.

We stayed for 4 nights for US$440 + vat at 14.62% + city service charge US$3.50 per day - overall about US$520 for the stay - but believe me when compared to Manhattan hotels - is very competitive + you see a different side/sight to city centre New York citizens - again no problem & very helpful to us Brits.

Major benefit also was we had an early flight out of JFK to Las Vegas, & the courtesy bus not only collected us from the airport / but delivered us back to Federal Circle - which is the free airport train which runs around JFK and allows you free stop offs to the various terminals.

Can fully recommend this hotel for clean, well trained & competent staff at hotel rates which are "real" - would certainly use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the car park - a little quieter than overlooking the main road.

I am a happy repeat customer Stayed here for a second time at the Sleep Inn Liberty Ave, JFK location. We paid ~$100-109 per night in Nov. & Dec. 2012. The hotel lobby is small and situated on the lower level. It is not a grand entrance and reminds me of a college facility but it is well appointed and clean. What makes this hotel a gem is the great service and the cleanliness of the rooms and comfortable beds. The service was super from front desk to support staff. Cassandra who worked the night shift was so nice and so helpful. Everything else is a perk. I love the "Zen" theme decor with the beautiful photographs in the rooms and throughout the hotel. Also having both a refrigerator and microwave is awesome. We were able to reheat leftovers from dinner and keep milk and drinks in the fridge. Also, there is a coffee pot, iron, hairdryer, and big flat screen tv in the room. I used the coffee pot for making tea and the coffee was good too although the secret is to use half the water so it would really be a medium strength brew. ;) Overall, we had a very pleasant experience and happy to see they value their customers. This seems to be similar to the reviews of the other Sleep Inns as well in NYC. Please keep up the great job and thank you for the service with a smile!

Location, location, location. Tried this hotel to save a few bucks the night before a morning flight out of JFK. The hotel is new and very clean; the staff is wonderful; the location is the problem. It's in a mixed industrial/residential section of an iffy neighborhood (and I'm rather tolerant in this regard), and it's a good 20 minutes even with no traffic to JFK. (Mapping software understates a bit; thankfully, my flight was at 6 a.m. Staying here with a later flight could be disastrous if the Van Wyck is backed up and you don't pre-plan a city streets alternative.) The small parking lot abuts a house, and on the night of my stay there were a number of people coming in and out of that house late at night. As others have stated, there are no restaurants on-site or nearby, though delivery menus are available and varied. Also, the room was quite small, to the point of bumping into each other while eating in the room. (Compared to the JFK hotels I have been at in the past, definitely smaller; on par with or slightly smaller than an average Manhattan room.) There is a big-screen TV with a good channel selection, and while I did not get to sample it, free breakfast. I would not choose again for JFK, even to save a few bucks.

We had a flight to JFK and would arrive quite late. Not wanting to get downtown after a long day of traveling as we just needed a place to sleep.
We were pleasantly surprised. The driver who picked us up was very entertaining and dropped us of at the hotel. The woman who checked us in was amazing. We asked how to get to the train station the next morning and not only did she explain that, she also offered us to take the (free) shuttle bus there, gave us a map and took us to the breakfast room to get some things for the next morning as we had to leave before breakfast started.

The room was a good size, very clean with a comfortable bed. Would stay there again the night before of after a flight.

Starting our US-tour we stayed here for two nights in order to be as close as possible to Manhattan. By usage of a car we were able to reach the downtown in quarter of an hour. Trying to avoid tolls another time we spent a bit more :) time.
The stuff is friendly and ready to help any time.
The room was clean and odorless, quite small, but equipped with all necessary stuff - big bed and convenient bathroom, flat TV, refrigerator, micro oven and coffee-maker with consumables provided. Arrived to the hotel lately in the evening I explored the closest area and found 24 hours opened mini-market available in two blocks distance. There are vending machines and ice-maker in the hotel itself.
The breakfast-room is simple, not too big and doesn't have windows. Provided meal was good enough: there is a possibility to prepare the oat porridge and to bake the waffles, all this usual kind of stuff.
Up to me this place is pretty nice to have short accommodation not far airports and NYC downtown for reasonable price.

Very clean - but not in a location that you would walk around day or night !!! They do not have a restaurant and there is not one near enough for you to walk (if you dared to !). They do give you information for 'order-in-delivery-restaurants. They do give you a free 'hot' breakfast which was excellent such as make-your-own waffle, sausage, cereal, boiled eggs, juices, coffee, etc. They do give free pick-upand take to the Federal Circle station where you catch a Tram (which was not working) or a bus to all Airline Terminals. The driver was excellent and very nice even if he was a 'wild' driver !!! Their ad said $89.95 per night - but because of the 'Hurridcane Sandy' they charged $189.95 per night. The rooms are extremely small with no room to sit except for 'on-the-bed'. They do have a coffee maker, fridge & microwave in the room. There is not room for you to 'pass' anyone in the room. To get by someone - - the other person either has to go in the bathroom or stand next to the door. I have encountered a lot of small rooms in my lifetime - - but this is the smallest !!!!! There is nothing to do on the property except sit in bed and watch T.V. The room was very very clean and in good shape. Everything worked great - - - you need to keep adjusting a wall heater (or air conditioner) for proper room tempature. Shuttle service is every hour on the half hour and not between 1pm and 3pm - - because of this we waited at the Federal Circle for almost an hour for the shuttle - outside in a freezing windy area without any protection from the elements.

Room Tip: Not a good location to stay more than a necessary 1-night near the JFK Airport.
