I picked the Ramada based on price and location, not knowing the area in advance. It turns out that it is very convenient to Cornell (3 minutes on back roads), where our daughter is for the summer. The hotel is within the parking lot of the major area mall and there are quite a few other stores adjacent to the property. The rooms and property are what I would expect from a $70/night hotel, not a $120/night hotel (what I paid), but that was the going rate in the area during the summer. The pool area is nice, but is only open from 10am to 9pm. The restaurant is nothing to write home about. The buffet breakfast was not very good. My family ended up getting breakfast foods at the adjacent market, which turned out to be a much better option. There is a MickyDee's right next door, as well as Subway.
The staff was very friendly and the property appeared safe secure. (It doesn't seem like there are too many "bad" areas in Ithaca except directly downtown around the Holiday Inn.) The only problem I had was after 2 days my door decided to reprogram itself and my key no longer worked. Not very nice at 10:00pm with a sleeping 5 year old in my arms and a cooler to have to go back down to the lobby to complain and get a new key!
All in all I would defintely stay there again given all things (ie rates) equal in the area. Book directly on the Ramada site as they have better prices than any of the "discount" sites.
