Ithaca may have moare restaurants per capita but most of them are on the lower end of the scale. (Sorry locals for that opinion.) FOODIES - if you find yourselves in Ithaca do NOT miss Just a Taste. The atmosphere is nothing special, the food comes at you at an almost alarming rate (ask them to slow it down a bit) but the flavors are FANTASTIC!!! This is a tapas and wine spot - over 40 wines offered by the glass and very reasonably priced. The food is small plate (tapas, right?) and each and every dish is spot on. We were four for dinner and ordered about 12 plates - WOW!!! What flavor, what creativity (without being cutesy), what FUN! And the hot temperature dishes came out smoking hot - love it! We asked that the dishes come out a bit slower so we could enjoy each one individually. You might want to order a couple of dishes and then a couple more and keep on going - that way you control the pace. We had asparagus/ramp bread pudding (to die for!), soft shell crab, roasted potatoes with rosemary, shrimps grilled with garlic and sherry, sauteed mushrooms with garlic and thyme, asparagus roasted with parmesan and herbs, homemade foccacia and chocolate soufflees to finish - I know that I left out a dish or two...sorry! The menu changes daily and keeps up with the season. Take yourself to Just a Taste - you will not regret it.

Everything here is at best slightly off. The duck wasn't very duck-like in flavor. I'm not sure how one achieves that, but they did. The sauce with it was also slightly weird. The most egregious thing was that their "souffle" was nothing like a souffle- it was a small cake. The server was also quite indignant when I pointed this out. Not the worst place in town, but there's much better food in Ithaca for this amount of money...

We've been coming here regularly for many years. Always innovative, experimental, delicious and a great value for both food and drink. Here's the catch: don't expect your normal, "Hello, I'm Chris and I'll be your server" kind of place. They take a different approach to service here. It's run more like a cross between a dim sum place and a diner. Don't get me wrong, we find it exciting and urban chic. The management has opted for a less pretentious and more efficient style. Wait staff rush on your behalf and help each other constantly. There's nearly always a line of customers; this efficiency is welcome so they can accommodate more diners, keep prices reasonable, and stay profitable. This is not the place for a long, quiet, leisurely dinner (which is rarely what we want). Just a Taste is bang on for terrific food and drink and an educated and energetic crew. p.s. It's a mystery how they get so many terrific dishes out of that tiny kitchen!

my favorite restaurant in Ithaca! The vacuum wine bar allows for a nice variety of local and internations wines, which can be enjoyed in flights of 4-5 selections. Nice selection of beer and port, too. The menu changes often, but always satisfies. Tapas portions allow you to try several dishes, but larger portions are available for many of the dishes.
The restaurant is usually quite busy, and there is no waiting area; however, the staff are happy to take your cell number and call when your table is ready. You can grab a cocktail at one of the many neighboring restaurants/bars while you wait!

As a long time Ithaca resident, I feel bad not giving a better review to this place, but the truth is that while some people swear by it, they still get it wrong a little too often. They are certainly inventive, but sometimes miss the mark, and for what they charge there should be more consistence in quality. The service is spotty too - sometimes fine, too often snotty. The tables are packed tightly together, and it's very loud. While there's a bar, it's small and diners are right up against it (and rarely is there a seat given that there's no where else to sit while waiting for a table). Sadly, the one thing I thought they always did well on consistently was their lunch, but they discontinued that a few years back. If you are looking for a nice meal out, this wouldn't be my first choice (or second, or third, or...)
