We were in Ithaca for an event and needed a place for dinner. Ithaca has lots of restaurants. We were interested in seafood and had previously been to the Boatyard Grill for lunch on a previous trip. So, we decided to try it. A call ahead gave us a place in line with an arrival window. We opted to arrive 20 minutes early and were seated after a short wait at the time we initially hoped to be seated. When you arrive they provide you with an electronic device that signals when your table is ready. This is apparently a very popular place so calling ahead is important. There is ample parking, but some of it is a distance from the restaurant - but a little golf cart shuttle makes the rounds to help folks. We lucked out and found an open spot very near the entrance. The setting is lovely, right on the very end of the lake. At times there are parallel activities, some outside under a tent. So, even though there may be a wedding reception under a tent, the restaurant continues to function normally and can keep up with the demands. We were greeted in a friendly way and our server was very good, responsive, prompt and attentive.

We opted for Asian Ahi Tuna and it was suggested medium rare. We ordered that and it came as ordered and was quite good. We also ordered Honey-soy Salmon and it arrived properly cooked and was quite good. House salads were added to each meal at a low price and these were fresh, crispy with reasonable blue cheese dressing on the side. Baked potato was not available. The wine list is reasonable and there are many options by the glass. We each had one glass and ended the dinner with decaf. The total was $65 before the tip and tax, which we thought quite reasonable for what we got.

We will return.

First, the rediculous no reservation policy but the use of a "call ahead" to get on the waiting list is an insult. It seems to suggest that they can't manage a reservation system and that your time isn't important to them. Second, we did the call ahead and waited in their small waiting area only to be served quite mediocre foods - nothing worth the wait. I'm sorry as I know this is an Ithaca hot spot, but from someone visiting from outside the area, let me tell you that they have pulled the culinary wool over your eyes at the Boatyard Grill.
I had the Black Currant Pork Chop with garlic mashed potatoes. The pork chop was over cooked, tough and flavorless. The black currant sauce they poured over the chop before serving was not complex by any means and was lifeless. Give this dish a miss if you eat here anyway. As for the garlic mashed potatoes - no hint of garlic and no seasoning at all - none.

Two other members of our party had the burgers the Boatyard Grill offers and they said the burgers were good, but the seasoned fries that were offered on the menu were not seasoned and were served just lukewarm. I tried them - no seasoning at all and they were just ordinary fries out of a friozen bag. Also, the buns on the burgers were just ordinary and disappointing.

One highlight was the beet salad. The one thing we order that didn't need cooking and the kitchen seemed to be able to do that pretty well. I guess you need to be a vegan with lots of time to wait to enjoy the Boatyard Grill.

I won't even go into the local idiot who purposely blocked the drive in front of the restaurant with his green truck.

Lakeside eatery and bar little on the classier side. They do offer an outdoor bar too. Very relaxing place with awesome scenary. Use the call ahead seating on busy days, the waiting line the day we were there was an hour, but got served immediatly when we went to the outdoor bar area. I ordered the Seafood Fra Diavolo and it was excellent, however it did not come with a vegetable and it was advertised as shrimp, clams, and scallops over linguini. Very minimal on the scallops but ample shrimp and clams. My wife got the Southwest Mahi Mahi and was very pleased with her meal. The outdoors bartender, Evelyn, was absolutely awesome.

Prices here are reasonable, dress is casual, and food is good though not top end. Great views of the inlet, including the college boathouses.

The Boatyard is our go to place whenever we are in Ithaca. Always have excellent, friendly service with a great view. This trip we had the seafood sampler which was a tower of clams, calamari and shrimp. It was very fresh and tasty. I usually stick to their salads and this time I had the roasted beets with leafy greens and gorgonzola. I topped it with a nicely prepared salmon filet. I have always had fresh and tasty food and it will continue to be one of our favorites!
