I had the pleasure of spending 5 nights this month at Michael Caspar's Private Hotel and Pure Food outside of Ithaca, Ny. This compound includes a main house and several outbuildings: a two bedroom house, apartment, a "Buddhist" sanctuary perfect for contemplation, and a home/office for the owner. The buildings look, at first glance, to be rustic, but that is merely a facade. The wood for the buildings was beautifully hewn from the deer-filled acres of forests surrounding the property. Massive beams made from the trunks of these trees are suspended across the rooms. Artifacts from the owner's careers, travels and experiences line the walls giving the interiors a museum quality. Dinosaur skeletons co-exist on walls with meteorites, rare stamps and personal pictures of David Bowie, the Dalai Lama and more. Everything in the house is high end from the large, ornate wood stove in the dining room to the appliances in the Chef's kitchen, bed linens and mattresses in the guest rooms. I stayed on the second floor of the two bedroom house. The spacious area included a luxurious bed and grand bathroom with a soaking tub and marble shower.
Michael Caspar and partner Carol could not have been more gracious. Breakfast is included in your stay, and I would advise taking advantage of that. The food was amazing and satisfying; large cheesy omelets with spring asparagus and bowls of fresh berries, whole grain blueberry pancakes with local maple syrup. Michael has been working and living in Ithaca since 1964 and has a wealth of knowledge and recommendations to share with his guests. As a first time visitor, I enjoyed both the serenity of Michael's property as well as the beauty of Ithaca's waterfalls and local farms. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to my next visit there. Soon I hope.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are quiet, well-appointed and private.

Private Hotel & Pure Food is a first class B&B. Owner and Chef Michael Casper goes way beyond expectations to make you feel like a VIP. The accommodations are warm and inviting and the food is remarkable. The service and care that goes into making your stay the best that it can be is off the charts. It was difficult to leave and go back to everyday life. There is plenty to do in the area. The proximity of the B&B to activities worked well and provides such a great retreat from the day. Michael Casper is passionate about his business and it truly shows.

Room Tip: The Blue Room was perfect but all of them seem great.

Wonderful stay! The room was stunning. Very clean, spacious, well appointed, and quiet. Michael, our host, was gracious and very accommodating. He was also an excellent chef. Everything was delicious, fresh, and abundant.

The setting was stunning. Located among a wooded 100 acres.

We'd definitely return!

With a planned trip to visit Cornell, I decided to check out and stay at the Private Hotel and Pure Food for its close proximity to the university. I had the most amazing time and enjoyed all the gourmet food prepared by the unimitable and most unique host, Michael! Set in glorious and peaceful surroundings, this place is idyllic whatever the season!

Room Tip: Loved the Zebra Room!

My wife planned a secret get-away for out anniversary. We arrived exactly as expected according to directions. The property was stunning. The buildings on the compound were interesting and very modest until you entered. Stunning. There was a warm wood fire in the main guest room. Pictures floor to vaulted ceiling. A pond. A sunset. A cabin. A dirt road. The room was great. But the best of all was the host. Just a lovely man. Oh, did I tell you about the outdoor hot tube and Barrel Sauna!!! As Michael said, we arrived as guests and left as friends. Oh wait... Breakfast was the absolute bomb. Loved it.

Room Tip: Just call Michael. He'll walk you through all the rooms
