"Sahara" is one of the best Mediterranean restaurant I have ate at. We chose seating on the street, as the weather was nice and not overly sunny. The portions are quite large, but well-worth trying - the hummus, baba ghanouj, dolma and greek salad plate left me wanting to return again.

This newish place in Ithaca has very nice standbys: hummus, baba ghanoush, salads. Za'atar Bread - pita brushed with olive oil and thyme and sesame seeds - is great. Surprisingly, spanikopita is mediocre; they can do better. Nice sweets too. We've not been there when its busy. Normally the service is fine.

Our service here was nice and efficient and our food selections were okay but nothing special. Chicken slightly dry.

i agree with the reviewer that said they could've made better mediterranean food, not even being mediterranean, but that wasn't the worst part of this restaurant.

we actually had good hummus and pita, but when our kosher friend ordered a chicken pita without the sauce and it came with the sauce on the plate, he asked it to be re-done as he had ordered it and the waiter said "um, i don't know." she went back to check with the owner/chef and said "yeah, he's not going to make it again." we were all appalled as our friend now had nothing to eat. and there were only 10 of us in the whole restaurant. we looked at her incredulously and she said, "yeah, he's really mean."

for food that was average and an owner so horrible that his own waitress would tell her table that he is mean, i have a hard time supporting this restaurant. easily my worst experience at a restaurant in ithaca.

I've visited this restaurant twice with family since summer 2011, both times for lunch. Food quality is good, but nothing special. If you like hummus and baba ghanouj very heavy on the smooth tahini, then this place is for you.

Everything is overpriced. The worst is the vegetarian combination platter, which included two dolmas, some greens, some feta, and an olive or two in addition to hummus and baba ghanouj, plus one small round whole-wheat pita cut in quarters. That cost a shocking $17. They charged us an extra $0.50 for one extra pita, even at that price for the dish!!!

I guess that the lofty prices reflect high rent and the costs of renovation. The place does look nice. But overall the atmosphere is depressing. Music, though presumably authentically Middle Eastern, is too loud, waily, and distracting. Service has been friendly at moments, but we felt forgotten at least twice during our latest visit as we awaited promised help. The meal took about twice as long to arrive as I thought it should have, despite there being only two or three other occupied small tables at 12:40 PM.

We will not be going back to this restaurant, but in any case, I do not expect it to survive here.
