If you have an hour.... park at the upper falls parking lot and hike the rim trail around the gorge. If you are not up for a challenging hike you can hike a nice flat hike in from the parking lot located at the base of the falls. This path is flat and paved.
Most spectacular in the fall when the leaves are at their peak color.
If you park at the upper falls parking lot there is no admission fee. Lower parking lot free with NYS park pass or $6.00 admission for vehicle.

I've lived in this area all my life and I'm still in aw every time I visit Taughannock Falls located on the west side of Cayuga Lake. The Native Americans named it "great falls in the woods" for a good reason. No matter what time of the year you visit, you'll be treated to a breath taking view of the highest water falls East of the Rocky mountains. If you visit the Finger Lakes region, this should be on your list of sights to see.

Nice villages, particularly Aurora, good wine trails, particularly nice hotels (Aurora Inn and it's mansions) , excellent colleges, near other Finger Lake and their facilities Such as Geneva on the Lake. Wonderful relaxing area.

At the bottom of the lake lies Ithaca and Stewart Park, a lovely place where you'll find all sorts of activities year-round. But, to experience the best of Cayuga Lake one should go up both shores where one will find some other nice parks (Taughannock Falls, Myers Point), beautiful scenery, and nice places to fish or paddle.

Also along both shores there are several wineries, although some think the best wineries in the area are along Seneca Lake.

Beautiful area especially in the fall with the leaves of the trees turning their pretty reds, oranges and yellow colors along the shore and hills of the Cayuga Lake.
