It's "okay". Some of the oter negative reviews are perhaps a little uptight. I use state campgrounds all over the US somewhat frequently, and many do not have guards at night- so I did not find that out of the ordinary. Nor is this the kind of area in which one really needs to worry about "any jack" getting in and being threatening. If you require a guard, please go to a privately owned campground and pay twice as much for the service. That's the difference between socialism and capitalism.
Anyway, the facilities are clean but dated as mentioned by other reviewers. I found the stay to be a little pricey for a state-subsidized campground in a lack-luster area with few activities and an unpleasant waterfront. As for the noise from other campers, I'm pretty sure they are just trying to drown out the noise from the highway which is disturbingly close.

If the water was more appealing, if there were more places to go, I'd give it a better rating. Otherwise, it's "okay".

Make sure to take a look at this beautiful fall. Now if you can plan it do it after a hard rain or right at spring when the snow is melting this way there will be a lot of water running. You can also hike very close to the fall and it is a pretty easy trail.

I grew up here and I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. There is so much beauty all the way around the lake no matter what time of the year it is.

It was formed during the Ice Age (so I was told!) and, at some points, it is 200m deep. People sail and boat in its waters. It has some pebble beaches and the water is quite cold( not this summer!). I love to look at it from a bench in Stewart Park.
