“Good food”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Difficult to get a reservation if you don't have an in at the restaurant as the last time we went we had someone we knoew make the reservatuon for us because he knew someone there and when I called I was turned away. The food is very good, it is very noisy and does not compare to Peter Lugar in Brooklyn. For a local steakhouse it is very good and the service is terrific.

“Nice steak house”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

Jimmy Hays is a nice Steak House in the middle of nowhere. Not alot of competition from the chain of steak houses on the north shore but still quite good. Steaks are large and flavorfull, service is very attentive and the price is not cheap. There is a grill menu at the bar if your not really hungry and it's every bit as good as the house menu. Defintely worth a trip on a special night out or just hang out at the bar.

“Amazing steak”
Reviewed January 27, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I ate here last night the food is always top notch. The place is always packed so expect to wait but the wait is so worth the food. You must start off with the garlic bread with Gorgonzola sauce it is amazing. We always get the chateau briand for two. It is so delicious and tender. It comes with a salad and their famous onion rings. We also got a side of the potatoes au gratin. Omg the meal was amazing as always. The service is excellent and we will be back again soon.

“Bring your appetite and especially your check book.”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

Jimmy Hay's steak house is a popular eatery in Island Park (NY) and attracts a familiar and local crowd of devotees. If you intend on going after 7 make sure you have a reservation as the place fills up fast. My wife and I each ordered a special: a veal chop stuffed with fontina and chopped bacon and a 15oz. ribeye cooked to perfection. Each came on a bed of what appeared to be a fried mashed potato patty and steamed vegetables of broccoli and cauliflower. The veal chop prepared Valdostana style was breaded and sauteed, something I didn't realize and would otherwise not have ordered. The portions are oversized; the veal was fattier than I expected for a chop priced at $52. The service can be a tad rushed: a busser came to take the bread tray away while it was still in use, a waiter asked about dessert but did not suggest or ask about coffee. The brownie dessert comes with ice cream, strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream, sinful for sure.

“Displeased”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

Went here during the holiday's and the place was packed to capacity, we had made reservations ahead so we had no problem getting a seat. As soon as we walked in the lights were continually flickering and were told it's not a big deal and just a little problem from Hurricane Sandy. The waitstaff was rude when were asking questions about the menu. Throughout our dinner the dinning room was very loud and claustrophobic. We continued our dinner and got the calamari for a starter it was tough and rubbery. The salad was fine, it's salad so not much to expect here. I ordered the fillet mignon and expected a juicy succulent piece of meat and got a tough hard over cooked mess! Not to mention that I ordered it to be medium. To finish off we were told that they did not have some of the desserts on the menu. All in all it was just an overpriced hype the whole dinner was very expensive and not what I payed for could have gotten a better experience at an Outback! Don't waste the time, money and patience here.
