“New Hampton Inn a pleasure to stay at”
Reviewed October 19, 2010

Stayed 2 nights because we were attending a wedding in Rochester. A very clean, beautiful Hampton Inn. The rooms were clean and spacious. The exercise gym was great. The breakfast was the usual Hampton Inn fare. The staff was friendly, helpful and courteous. We definitely recommend staying at this hotel. We did not have a lot of free time to explore the area but we enjoyed our visit to a beach on Lake Ontario that was only a couple of miles from the hotel and we took a beautiful walk along the Erie canal which was also nearby.

I just got back from Rochester after a 4 days business trip. This is my second time staying at this Hampton and absolutely no complains. Its clean, the staff is accommodating, free breakfast and parking. They have a small gym - good for cardio but not much for weight training. They have cookies at the front desk in the evening which is a nice treat. Its about 10-15mins from the city and has a few restaurants in the area but I have mostly gone to city for food. My favs Sindbad on Park ave and Openface on university ave. My room was under $100 both times so that's reasonable for the area.

This hotel is near the home of the business person I travel with when in Rochester so I tried this instead of the slew of hotels in the Brighton/Henrietta area. Be forewarned that while this isn't in the "hood" it is not a fancy area and there isn’t a lot nearby. There is one restaurant very close, the very unassuming looking small Pasta Villa. It is deceiving; reasonably priced super Italian restaurant but very crowded so get there early. The hotel is first rate, very modern; has the flat screen plus all the HD channels so many hotels still lack. Nice amenities in the bath; extras like mouthwash and my double room also had micro/fridge combo. Highly recommended if the location works into your plans.

This Hampton was new, clean and very nice. But I have to say it seemed small and sort of unsure of itself yet. It is a good putt into downtown Rochester, a little further than we thought but not too bad. The staff was very helpful with any needs or questions we had. The rooms were nice and comfy of course because the place is brand new. Breakfast was okay, better than some but not as good as others.....get there well before closing though. Our last morning we went down a little late and the gentleman running things started closing the doors, inch by inch at 15 minutes til. Pretty obvious he had no intention of staying even a minute more than necessary. And thats it in a nutshell...nice, but just sort of okay.

Indications were that this was a brand new place. Indeed, when we arrived, everything looked sparkling. The staff confirmed that this Hampton had opened just a few weeks earlier and they had the enthusiasm of new employees who are still excited about their job. However their performance was a bit lacking. Our request for a quiet room wasn't quite fulfilled and the alternative wasn't much better, being near the elevator instead of away from it. Our annoyance could have been avoided if only they'd let us look at a room map so we could see where on the floor the room was, but they didn't have one and couldn't turn the computer screen towards us. But in the end it didn't matter as the room we settled for was very quiet anyway.

I said it looked sparkling new. Well, I don't know how long that will last. There were some small bits of paper on the floor of the elevator when we arrived that were still there when we left three days later. And it doesn't look as if the hallways are being vacuumed. In fact, maintenance seems to be a low priority: At our last breakfast, the whole time we sat there the young man responsible for maintenance was busy chatting up the really hot receptionist, who seemed to enjoy the attention, to the detriment of customers waiting for service.

Speaking of breakfast, it appeared as if it wasn't fully implemented yet. There was plenty of counter space left empty and what was offered was pretty basic in this day and age. Still, it was fresh and plentiful and the attendant was on the job, keeping things clean.

Tiny pool, no hot tub or sauna, smelled funny - probably disinfectant of some sort, as the place was still very new.

No little extras here. I have no right to expect them, but I have to say I've grown quite fond of the yummy cookies, popcorn and fruit provided in the evening at many Hamptons. I would have thought that a brand new place would have learned from its siblings in the chain and provided those inexpensive little extra touches that help turn a reasonably good experience into an excellent one.

Overall, a good Hampton Inn experience, but a bit of a disappointment only because in a newly built place it should be a great experience.
