Whenever Restaurant.com sells off their $25 coupons for $2 each, I am buying those in bulk for all places we are travelling to. They never expire, so it is a safe thing!

This one I used when we were staying at the Oheka Castle in town, and I was looking for a nice place to eat not too far away from the Estate. This was just right, about 5 miles away.

Hubby had a skirt steak (whatever that may be) and thought it was very good, while I had a collection of various side dishes. I am a vegetarian and normally not frequenting steak houses, but I had checked their menue online before I purchased that coupon, and I saw that they were offering a good selection of vegetarian sides.

I had grilled green asparagus, baked plantains with honey and a baked potato with sour cream and chives.

They had an outstanding wine list as well, but we had enjoyed cocktails previously at Oheka's bar, and we didn't want to drink alcohol so soon again. So we stayed with water, but their wine list is really impressive!

For my birthday, we came here to enjoy have a nice intimate dinner. Neither one of us have been here before. And what a nice present than to try a new restaurant in town so I can Yelp as soon as I get home!

We started at the bar with two martinis. The ambiance is very warm with dark wood shelves, comfortable chairs, proper lighting and nice decor. Two big screen TV's play some baseball games which it was a little distracting. In a nice bar like this, we could do without the big screen tv's; thus forcing people to interact with each other.

I was quite impressed with the very nice service and friendliness from our bartender, however a little bit too slow for my taste. She took our order (Gray Goose dry martini and a lemon drop martini). Then she went to work on another patron's drink, came back, did my partner's martini, went to do someone else drink leaving me without one for a good 5 minutes, and then finished my drink... hum... partially forgiven for the attentiveness and friendliness when chatting with us after she had a little free time.

We finished our Martinis and ate two bowls of the super crisp, spicy and tasty chips and moved to the main dining room.

First thing I noticed is how cold they keep this place! They could have turned down the air conditioning system down a little bit... We sat down in a table for two against the curtain that blocks the view to the kitchen and servers' station. Sadly, the curtain did not block the noise that came from the area which at times it was distracting from our conversation during dinner. Ambiance is nice and warm with perfect low lighting and nice paintings. Some tables are quite close but luckily ours was a little off to the side which was nice to be able to have a nice conversation without overhearing the person next to ours.

However, our very nice and attentive server gave us the menus, specials of the day and wine list. The very professional sommelier recommended the Lalande-Borie St.Julien 2005 (Burgundy) which we loved and want to go and buy for our wine collection.

We started with the 5 spice seared sirloin carpaccio (served rare) with seaweed salad and soy ($12) and the classic caesar salad ($9). The seared sirloin was tasty and complimented the wine very well.

We ordered the wet aged porterhouse for two ($64) as well as the grilled jumbo asparagus ($9) as well as the sweet potato fries ($9) as the side dishes. Our steak was fantastic, well cooked and nicely presented. The side dishes, however, a little bit on the sour-taste side with the asparagus could have been steamed a little longer and the sweet potatoes a little better... But partially forgiven for the great taste of the porterhouse steak.

We ordered the warm chocolate pudding cake for dessert ($8) along with coffee. The dessert came with a nice candle and we shared the very yummy, soft and sweet cake. Coffee was the typical restaurant watery one so nothing special on that side.

Overall service was very professional. Servers were very friendly making small talk with patrons all around the restaurants. However, the hostess could have been just a little friendlier or have a little smile on her face.

The Final Verdict:

Price Value Overall: 4.0 out of 5.0

Final Score: 57 out of 60 (95 out of 100% or A Grade)

Final Comment: Bar area could become our new favorite place when we crave martinis. The steak was fantastic but the side dishes need to be reviewed and chefs need to pay more attention to properly cooking them. The wine selection is fantastic and the professionalism of the staff needs to be recognized. Will be back soon.

Service was very poor. It seemed as if the waitress either had too many tables or just didnt know what she was doing. We waited for everything. And when it came it was cold. Not only was it cold but the ingredients were not up to par. You'd figure a steakhouse would have good steak...wrong!! Outback is better

We brought our family to MAC's to celebrate our son's Birthday. We ordered the Kobe steak special (two cuts) , a filet and two orders of surf and turf, one of which was to be split. We also ordered an appetizer to be split and a baked potato. The filet was nicely prepared as was the turf portions of the surf and turf.
However that ends the good. The two cuts of kobe steak were mediore at best, over-cooked, fatty and grizzly and unexpectedly served over a bed of foreign tasting blue cheese infused potatoes then disguised in a sauce. The lobster tail portions of the surf and turf were small and rubbery in texture. The wait staff failed to split the dishes as requested and as they themselves suggested (we performed this task ourselves after asking for an addition plate) and the baked potato was lost, finally arriving at the table but after the meal was finished. Preparations for the birthday celebration made at the time the reservations were made were never provided. (A misunderstanding?) An effort was made to partially compensate us for the kobe steak that was not consumed and a chocolate tart and scoop of ice cream was eventually brought to our son but frankly the occasion was ruined. It was too little too late. The entire experience came nowhere near meeting the expectations of a fine steakhouse. All this while they only had to meet the needs of a dozen or so diners. Imagine if they were busy. If our experience is any barometer it is easy to see why they are not.
