My wife and I frequent this jewel of an eatery in the heart of Huntington Village, Long Island NY! My wife's fav is the Biryani rice, and Dal lentil stew, while I prefer the Tandoori chicken, both on skewers or on the bone, served on a sizzling platter with fresh onions & peppers - Kind of like an "Indian fahita" when served with nan flatbread! Curry sauce for dipping is served on the side, and can be ordered mild. Of course the other traditional dishes including vindaloo and other curry offerings are well done, so you really can't go wrong. Top it off with a creamy mango lassie & you're in dining heaven! Atmosphere is traditional, with dimmer lighting and a low-key, relaxed attitude. Only issue is, out little one isn't a big fan of spicier foods so we don't go there as often as we like. Other than that, highly-recommended, very consistent cuisine.

There are so many more better Indian restaurants. Too bad Huntington doesn't have one. The food here is not as good as elsewhere. Salty and oily pretty much describes everything I tasted on the menu. Service is terribly slow too.

House of India has won a few awards for the "Best of Long Island" cuisine as well as other ones. However, remember that you will be coming here for the food only. The restaurant ambiance is very blend... with just typical big tables, the usual Taj Mahal 'corny' pictures on the wall and the plastic flowers as table center decorations. The table setting is set up for groups and for the food to be 'shared'. They have small to large tables.

As for the food, it is just fab! I usually order the lamb curry which I don't get tired of. Also the chicken tandoori is superb, even though the chicken might be a little dry sometimes. The garlic nan bread just melts in your mouth. The lunch menu (weekdays) is a great deal as includes soup, bread and the main course for $8.95.

The service.. well... it is an Indian family run business which is great, but customer service can be lacking sometimes. But as often as they have seen me there, they tend to be a little friendlier.

The Final Verdict:

Restaurant Ambiance/Decor: 2.0 out of 5.0

Staff Service/friendliness: 3.0 out of 5.0

Seating Arrangement/Layout: 4.0 out of 5.0

Seating Comfort: 4.0 out of 5.0

Food Quality/Flavor: 5.0 out of 5.0

Wine/Alcohol Selection: 3.0 out of 5.0

Price Value: 4.0 out of 5.0

Bathrooms Cleanliness: 3.0 out of 5.0

Final Score: 28 out of 40 (70 out of 100% or C grade)

Final Comment: This is a great restaurant for the budget conscious consumer without sacrificing taste or eating bad food. Just remember that you will come here for, not for the ambiance or service, but for the food and taste.

Have eaten-in and gotten take out and each time, it's been delish. The service is a little scattered and slow at times, but never ridiculously bad and the prices are a little on the high-side for this caliber restaurant. The Malai Kofta is worth it's weight in gold - yum!

Can you say MANGO CHICKEN?! We sometimes drive 1.5 hours from Manhattan just to eat here. Seriously.
