The castle is an elegant old estate, and it is very well maintained. But - it is mainly a venue for weddings and other large functions. As a hotel for a traveller, it is lacking in many basic amenities. There is no control in the room for air conditioning, the windows don't open, there is not coffee in the rooms, there is not room service (unless you want to pay a $20 fee). Breakfast was minimal (coffee, toast, yoghurt). There is not restaurant for dinner. Room decoration is very somber - bordering on depressing!

Oheka seems to cater to overnight stays of guests attending weddings. For the vacation traveler, try something else!

Oheka Castle is part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. One can consider Oheka as luxurious but one certainly misses traditional features of a 5 star hotel. No restaurant, no real wellness, etc. The whole castle is set to host weddings and the majority of guests do exactly this. Breakfast is ok but not overwhelming. The reception is hidden in a tiny room adjacent to the entrance and not really nice nor welcoming nor something you would expect from a hotel this category. Staff is friendly but not very knowledgeable. The exterior is stunning including the gold course. The rest shows ways for a lot improvement. The property certainly has potential.

We stayed here for 1 night for a friends wedding. We would have stayed longer but it was sold out for other events.

Put in a Whitney room. We only paid $175 per night, but would have paid much more. (we originally booked it for $500 per night, but there was an event discount. YAY!)

Everything was perfect. Best bedding I have ever seen.

No complaints about anything.

Thank you Sharon and Eric!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I attended a wedding at the Oheka Castle on 09/19/09. It was a WoW affair. The Castle is large and elegant. The grounds are just beautiful. The gardens and fountains are a must see. The view from the great lawn overlooking the golf course and Long Island Sound is special.

The service was the best that I have experienced at any such event. Polite, caring staff saw to the needs of the 250 people. The food was served quickly and everyone actually ate at the same time. Often by the time the last table is served the first tables served are long finished. Not here.

The Happy hour was in a beautiful ball room type space. A lot of light flowing in from the outside showed the true beauty of the space. The food overall was good.

The ten piece music ensumble was great. One guy looked like Louie Armstrong, played the trumpet like him and sang like Louis did. Very Special. Others in the group sang and played all the old and new songs. Everyone was happy. When the brides father had the first dance with his daughter, he was surprised with an Elvis Presely immitatator. Many people stayed at the Resort for the night.

All in all, agreat event, with great people at a magnificent place.

(Follow-up review from prior post)

This review is being posted in the midst of a stay at Oheka. The Oheka owners and staff remain simply incredible. The propertly, and stunning grounds are jaw droppingly immaculate. During each of my four stays over the past three years, I have felt warmly welcomed at Oheka in the same light as how a family friend might be included in castle activities. The staff is unusually adept at unobtrustive anticipatory service.

The contiential breakfast has been expanced since my last visit to include hot items (eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes). This is a marked benefit to improving the qualtiy of the breakfast, which was previously adequate, but not remarkable. The newly improved breakfast was delicious.

Complementary wireless internet service with a strong connection is now accessible.

Oheka remains our favorite destination to combine leisure with business travel.

The property is beautiful and the room was spotless!!! I attended a wedding at the hotel and it was wodnerful. I gave it a 3 out of 5 because I think it could be better for the money, however, we got a group rate, so we didn't spend what the normal rate is for a Whitney Room. Had we spent $400+ for our room I would have been dissapointed for a couple of reasons. First there wasn't a bellhop to carry our luggage to the room (although one to carry it upon our departure). And second the jacuzzi in our room was broken. And last our bathroom floor flooded everytime we took a shower, although they came to clean it up afterwards each time. The bed was comfortable! And it was nice that they give a basket of snacks at no extra charge. And the L'Occitane toilitries were a nice touch.

  • Liked — beautiful decor and historic mansion and comfort
  • Disliked — broken tub and flooded bathroom

We finally got in... but worth the wait! Great rooms and friendly service. With luxury hotels so expensive in Manhattan we decided to drive 45mn and stay at this amazing castle... a much better value than staying at the St Regis or the Ritz!
