Description: By 1994 after some years in the USA, we felt (with all due respect) that good and authentic Mexican food was missing from most Mexican restaurants at the time. If we wanted to eat good Mexican food, we had to travel far from the Huntington area, so we decided to open a very small restaurant in East Northport, The lil Caboose. In 1995, The lil Caboose, was awarded as one of "The Top Ten Restaurants Of Long Island", by Newsday. By the end of 1996, with the support of our clientele, we opened the Oaxaca restaurant in Huntington village, where we once again found ourselves the happy recipients of an award, this time as one of Newsday's "The Best Top Ten List Of 1997." We settled in Huntington with Oaxaca for ten years, enjoying customers from all over Long Island. Our local Huntington clientele was growing in great numbers, so we felt it was time to expand. During this time, school teachers invited us to give important lectures in their schools on Mexican food and culture. We really enjoyed sharing our knowledge with the community. For these main reasons, we decided to open Quetzalcoatl, our full scale restaurant, where we offer a richer variety of Mexican dishes and a full bar to allow guests to sample delicious Mexican cocktails prepared the proper way. The name Quetzalcoatl was chosen with much thought to its meaning and philosophy. Taken from pre-Hispanic history and culture, the idea of "serving food for spirit" is at the soul of our business. The native Mexican philosophy of respect for food/body combined with gratitude in all activities is part of our daily life. Since "we are what we think and what we eat" we serve food for the soul, from the heart of Mexico! Buen apetito and muchas gracias!

“Quetzalcoatl Overrated”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2013

We ate on a weekend and found the wait to be really long for a table, so we were expecting some really great food- it wasn't .The staff is friendly but seem to be overworked. Could use a few more servers for the busy weekend. Food was average but the setting is fun. I would try this place on a weeknight or for lunch. Not worth waiting over 45 minutes for a table.

Enjoyed the food and drinks. The place is huge and very airy. Try it....we were there on cinco de mayo and they had a mariachi band which was cool and made for a fun night.

“Mexican at its best”

We love this multi-level restaurant. It is cheerful, bright and colorful and the food is exceptional. We always enjoy our visit here and it is a favorite lunch spot for my daughters and myself.

“Delicious Dinner!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012 via mobile

I haven't been on Long Island for any recent length of time to judge whether this restaurant was more expensive than other comparable places. But I can say we all enjoyed our meal! The appetizer, on the house, was a scrumptious potato in crispy shell. Our main courses were all good; the chicken mole’, the chicken chimichanga and my daughter's quesadilla. The desert of rice pudding and crispy, cinnamon tinged tortilla/cookie was also quite pleasing. My wife's margarita - standard house tequila - was also on the mark. The service was friendly and efficient (we ate on a Tuesday night so I can't vouch for how it is on busier nights).

“Maybe it was the sangria or the live music?”

Very enjoyable. Lots of families and kids but the food is upscale and tasty. Mexican dishes an 'premexican' tasty dishes. I was surprised at the quality and would surely come again.
