A nice change of pace from a regular app then entree is to have tapas and this is just the place to do that! Great atmosphere and great food, not to mention the wine selection!

The best empanadas around-even a veggie option. The host Hugo is a charmer and knows how to take care of his guests. The Argentine meat selections are excellent. The entraña (skirt steak) is always a hit. Surprisingly, the fish specials are always fantastic. The meat grill for two easily feeds three people with left-overs. Be bold and try the morcilla (black sausage-really blood sausage)-delicious! Excellent appetizers and very good tapas. Very good selection of Argentine wines.

The venue is wonderful, wait staff friendly, but the parilla ( beef barbeque) suffers from over salting and poor quality beef. Chicken is tasty, but every other item has problems. The sweet breads are dry and salty, chorizo over salted, short ribs, tough and over salted, hanger steak tough and, of course, over salted. Morcilla ok. In sum, as strange as this sounds, avoid the most typical dish at an other wise delightful place. If you really want parilla, drive to Queens and try Puerto Madero just off the expressway, save a few dollars and have a better meal. By the way the owner, Hugo, at Cafe Buenos Aires, is from Mendoza and the wine list reflects his excellent taste in wine, it is a pity he has yet to improve on the parilla.

We visited Cafe Buenos Aires with 2 other couples for a special occassion on Saturday night. We had a reservation and the place was packed. We were seated after sitting at the bar for about 30 minutes. The maitre de took our drinks to the table on a tray, which was nice because we ladies had Martini glasses (very difficult to walk with). We started with the empanadas and the stuffed figs. The empanadas were really good, but skip the figs. There were 3 very small stuffed figs on the plate for $12!!! I had the NY Strip steak. It was very good and cooked perfectly. My husband had salmon which he also enjoyed but for the price it was a small portion. One couple shared the paella, which they liked. Another of us had the gnocchi which he said was good and the other had stuffed chicken which she also enjoyed. The red sangria is a must have! It's a little pricey, but worth it in in my opinion. We did not try it, but the tapas menu had a lot of choices. I would like to go cack for sangria and tapas. Overall, it was good. I did think it was a little pricey. Most entees are over $25. Most starters are over $10. It came to $120 a couple not including the drinks that we had at the bar.

Cafe Buenos Aires sits off the main the strip in downtown Huntington. The menu, as you might imagine, is typically Argentinian. The maitre de will greet you at the door and if you have to wait for your table there is a nice bar area. Last weekend we were told the wait would be 45 minutes and it was only 15. Bravo for under promising and over delivering! Service across the board was solid. We have been there twice and have not been disappointed.

The tapas is good - but not up to the standards of the finer NYC tapas joints that seem to have popped up all over the city. The menu has several seafood dishes and lots of meat. The house wines were excellent. I had the malbec... quite good and pairs well with steak. If you like steak I had the sirloin with chimichurri and it was a quite good. My wife had a seafood dish with octopus that did not stand out quite as much.

Worth the visit for something different in Huntington.
