As it was August and no snow to be found, we opted for the skyrider tour with the largest zipline in North America and were not disappointed! We had to bribe our 13 year old daughter to brave the Zip, but after the first run (the guides were so kind and compassionate and very knowledgeable and SAFE!) she was hooked and wanted to go first every run. This from a girl with two feet planted firmly on flat ground:) This is not for hte faint-hearted, but if you want a chance to breakthrough your fears, it is an incredibly safe place to do so. GO FOR IT, you will not regret it. If you are stuck to the ground with Gorilla glue, you may want to start slower with the mid-mountain tour.

“Do the Zipline Tour!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2011

We went up to Hunter Mtn with the intention of doing the medium zipline tour but when we got there, the tour wasn't offered. But the guides talked me into the more adventurous skyrider tour and I am so glad we did it. The view was fantastic, the guides were helpful and encouraging. I was so scared to do the zipline but they made it fun and worth the extra money.

“Hunter Mt--my one & only home mt for skiing NY”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2011

For excellent, unbeatable snowmaking, grooming and terrain, you can't beat Hunter Mt. While Hunter has always had a reputation of being too crowded on weekends, we have timed the longest line at 4-5 minutes! I bet you can't say that about Windham, Bellayre or Gore. It is still by far the best ski resort in NY for the money.

“Hunter Mountain, Catskill, NY Ski Review”

Hunter Mountain, Catskill, NY Ski Review

The last few years, the conditions at Hunter Mtn.com have
become really torrid.

The season of 2009-2010 their main quad chair was out of service for -24- days or of 1/3 of the season. This season 2 other lift were down a majority of ski days.

Hunter Mtn lift system is quite old – 10 lifts date back to the 1970’s era 40 years

There’s no indication new lift are planned any time soon..

Could explain why savvy skiers are deserting Hunter in favor of Wyndam & Bellayre.

Skiers aren’t the only ones leaving Hunter mtn

Hunter Mtn.com Lost their Premium advertising Partners
Aspen / Snowmass, GM, Telluride, Cooper Mini, Windham,Toyota
Just to name a few.

Groomig at best appears to be minimal.

The mountain is basically a good ski mountain.
Their new senior management appears to be lacking responsibility.
More Bean Counters than Skiers – grooming lascks quality

Note to all skiers and riders.
If conditions are not pristine – don’t blame the snow makers
Blame their bosses for forcing shortcuts and minimal grooming.

“Spring Skiing - Not so bad”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2011

I'm not the biggest fan of small mountains but in this New York area you won't find mountains like in the West or even in Eastern Canada. It's only about 2 hours from NYC and if you just want to put on mileage, I suggest you go during the week when the trails are practically yours. I would not go during the weekends when the place turns into a teenage hangout with wild skiers and snowboarders.
