“Dump”

This place is a dump. No place to hung your clothes in some of the rooms, sheets that don't fit the bed and the rooms smell. The bathrooms were small but manageable. Management doesn't seem to care since, I don't think expect ant repeat business. I can't believe the rooms have been upgraded.

The older reviews in TripAdvisor did not seem to apply. The hotel has been renovated, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the "loud bar" is no longer open. We have stayed in this hotel twice since our daughter moved to the area. It is not a romantic get-away hotel, but it is clean and much more affordable than some of the upscale B & B's in the area--many of which require two night stays. The breaksfast was free, but far from a gourmet treat.

We had made a reservation at the St. Charles Hotel in July 2005. We arrived quite late -- around midnight -- and found that the only room left in the hotel was one where the carpet had recently been replaced, and the fumes from the carpet glue were overwhelming. My husband immediately got a headache. We could not escape the fumes even by opening the window. As a consequence, we did not stay overnight in the hotel and had to drive around searching for another place to stay after midnight. Thus, this hotel seems to be poorly managed. Of course, the carpet fumes have probably died down by now.

We were concerned after reading all the reviews, but we had a very positive experience. The front desk staff were congenial, the rooms were clean and spacious enough, and everyone was nice to our group of parents and kids. A really good deal for the price -- perfect for kids and within walking distance to all the shops + restos.

We stayed at the St. Charles Hotel the Friday before New Year's. The room was adequate and nothing looked too run down, and the front desk staff was friendly. It was a bit of a walk to the popular restaurants but we enjoyed the location nonetheless, being right in front of the park. (The Diner close by on Warren was great for breakfast.)

The biggest problem we experienced was with the bar patrons. When they all left at 2 am, they were very loud; we were woken up by shouting (potentially a fight- the crowd we saw in the bar when we returned from dinner looked pretty rowdy).

Coming in at a close second is the fact that they do not have any window covering to block the morning light, so we did not really get the chance to sleep in comfortably. I guess they're trying to make sure no one sleeps past the 11 am check out? Whatever the reason I was apalled.

Lastly, there was mold on the shower curtain, which means there might be other less obvious types of dirtiness.

We will try a bed and breakfast next time.

It was OK for one night, but that is all. When we reserved a room at the St. Charles we had no choice because it was the only lodging in the area, of a somehwat reasonable reputation, that would accept a one night (Saturday) stay. It is a rather down at the heels hotel. Upholstery is stained, walls are paper thin, airconditioning units (although new) are periodically shutting off because they trip the circuitbreakers, furnishings are cheap and shabby. On the other hand the room was clean, including the bathroom and the bed was comfortable. In addition the front desk was accommodating.

Stayed for 2 nights end of May. Unhelpful ,foreign front desk.Old,beat up room but not too dirty. Wi-Fi and cable TV had problems, worked sporadically. They put twin sized sheets on a full sized mattress and called it a queen sized bed. Breakfast was green bananas and stale cereal with warm milk but plenty of coffee. The ac worked in room but the hallways ,reception area HOT. Quiet, plenty of parking as not many people stay here. Do not get a room above the bar.
I would not stay here again but unfortunately not much else available in Hudson. Paid $79 per night for a Queen Room so I guess You get what you pay for.
Go elsewhere, spend more or you will have a pissed off wife/girlfriend during the stay.
