“Pretty good”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

I've heard a lot about Simon's and after our recent trips to Mt Fuji, we decided we needed to try out the competition. Overall, it was a pretty good meal - my first impression was that it was somewhat dirty (the floor was sticky) but dining area and service was pretty good. The hibachi chef was very engaging. He smiled and cracked jokes and seemed very comfortable in his role. The food was pretty good - no complaints at all and the waitresses were always nearby to refill drinks. I thought the prices were slightly better than Mt Fuji.

“Best place in town!”
Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

I've been there twice, one to the hibachi and one to the tapas bar, and don't know which one is better because both are amazing. The food is over the top, delicious!

“Great Meal & Fun Hibachi Grill Show!”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

Went to Simon's with 7 other people in early January. We had reservations for the hibachi grill area, and had a great experience. The food was very good--miso soup, salad, and most of us selected the fillet mignon, cooked to order, which came with a couple of shrimp and the best fried rice ever. Grilled veggies were excellent too. Hibachi show was pretty standard (a volcano made of stacked onion rings, then lit on fire), the chef giving everyone in our party a chance to catch a piece of chicken with their mouth that he flipped at them, shooting saki from a squeeze bottle, lots of fast moving knives, etc. A fun show that seemed to be enjoyed by kids and adults alike around the grills. Split a piece of carrot cake with my husband for dessert--a little on the dry side, but the only part of the meal I would rate less than "great." Reservations for the hibachi area highly recommended as it can be impossible to get near it on busy evenings. There is also a separate tapas bar area which we visited about 4 years ago and it was good as well.

“Good food at locally owned restaurant at a small town with some atmosphere”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

Having travel to many cities and small towns with the same chain restaurants to choose from everytime, we decided to try the locally owned restaurants because we feel 1) we want to support the local owners and 2) it's always an adventure trying out restaurants not part of the chains...We wanted a place that was not a hole in wall (although, hole in the wall places do have good food for a decent price) with a good atmoshphere as we wanted to entertain ourselves and hang out with friends. We decided to check out Simon's restaurant in downtown Hanover Square in Horseheads. (If you are looking for locally owned restaurants, downtown Hanover Square is the place to go...stay away from the mall area.) We hear that is under new management. Simon was the previous owner but now is owned by a relative. We were greeted by a young lady who asked if we had a reservation. Apparently, for the Hibachi Grill side of the restaurant, reservations are highly recommend as it is the popular side of the restaurant. The other side of the restaurant is for Tapas which don't need reservations. In the middle, dividing the two is where the large wrap around bar is and where the chefs make your tapas dishes which is fun to watch sitting at the bar. Will write a review when we do try out that side. For this review - it is the Hibachih side. We were lucky to be seated with a small group. There were four of us and we joined another group of four. The tables are laid out enough to sit 10? Didn't count but you can have a nice size party for each grill table. The waitress greeted us and we ordered our drinks. Afterwards, she took our orders. There is not many choices but we heard that they have the best steak so we ordered the filet mignon steak (shrimp comes with your order). Each of our meal came with soup and salad...the soup was not the traditional tomato dressing that I am used to at other Japanese restaurants...it was mayo based which I did not care for...it was good though...and I did finish my bowl. The miso soup is OK. It is clear based with some pieces of sliced fresh mushroom (not canned...yes, I've been to places that used canned mushrooms...not cool.) Once we finished, the chef came with his rolling cart of goodies (our orders)...he greeted us with broken English and smiled very shy...cracked a couple of jokes...did his little performance...the onion volcano mountain, the big fire on the grill, and hilarous way of putting out the fire...and his flipping and cracking of the egg...all pretty standard...Now-to the food....BIG PORTIONS...the fried rice was awesome...one of the best fried rice I've ever tasted (maybe because it was made at the spot and did not sit around) and the fresh veggies grilled there were juicy. The filet migon was tender and juicy and cooked just as we like it (of course, the chef asked how we liked it.). Each of us had some peices of cut up shrimp. After the chef finished cooking our meal, we ate quietly because we were hungry and stuffed - half of the table asked for a box to take home. The waitress asked us if we had room for dessert - one hand showing us the dessert tray...it was tempting...but we passed...maybe next time! It was nice and warm on a cold night to do the Hibachi...it was not cheesy and it had a nice atmosphers...we were full and we had a good time...dinner and entertainment for about $20 per person in average...not too bad. Next time will try the Tapas side!

“Terrific experience!!!”
Reviewed April 20, 2012

I have been to Simon's twice now and both times had the most amazing experience. The chef entertains and the food is out of this world! You will not be disappointed at all and the prices are extremely reasonable.
