The Hickory House was right in front of our hotel so we decided that we would give it a shot after a long day. By the time we got there we were tired and hungry. It was a cold Saturday night on the outside and the Hickory House was nice and warm inside. We were seated alone next to the fireplace. (Everyone else was at the bar section.) We reviewed the menu and thought that there was a nice selection of food to choose from (Seafood, Steak, Italian, and even Chinese dishes) and that the prices were a pleasant surprise. We began our meal with a side salad and bread. This did not go over well with us as the salad was the kind that you would have expected to receive at a truck stop. Iceberg hearts and a few slivers of carrots and red cabbage. Throw on top some cheap tasting dressing and we were shaking in our boots at what to expect next. The bread rolls were relatively fresh, but still the super cheap kind you'd expect people to dump on the kids at family cookouts. We crossed our fingers and waited for the entrees. The drink prices were very reasonable so we joked how we should have come for the booze instead of the food. Anyway, my wife's seafood platter came to her and she was thrilled to see that it looked fresh and tasted delicious. My lasagna was also very good and it came with a tasty side of fresh garlic bread. We were both blown away by the end of our meal. For the money this was an excellent choice. Our waitress was also working the bar but we never felt neglected and she was warm and friendly. Our advise is to keep your expectations low when your side salads arrive and to not fill up on the cheap bread. The main course was worth the money. We would gladly recommend the Hickory House.
